Just remember there are 3 sides to every story, and we have just heard one of them. I would actually be interested in hearing the other Two.

Since 2001, the Post reports, some 62,000 cash forfeitures have been pursued under federal law in cases that, like Stuart’s, did not involve search warrants or criminal indictments. Legal expenses help explain why only one-sixth of those forfeitures were challenged.
Our freedom is slipping away at an alarming rate.

bet you 2/3 of those were unpaid child support payments...

I have a distant in law that was pulled over...had to go to court, got out of paying the ticket, BUT they discovered he had not paid Child-support in 2 years...lost 70% of his paycheck for the next 3 years...you dont need a warrant for that and he was not indicted...

I just cannot remember the last time I was carrying $17,500 cash around with me. There are so many options for payment that it is hard to believe anyone would carry that much cash.

As to scanning credit cards, I just don't know about that because that is unused credit, not money you have. So how does that work?

Here is the take away from the article linked above.
If you travel by car in the United States, don’t carry a lot of cash, because the cops might steal it.
In this day and time there are many other ways carry on transactions. But I do agree cash forfeiture laws do not pass the smell test.

A revolt in the making . . .

And they wonder why people don't like cops . . .

I'm calling BS. I used to carry a lot of cash, and I got pulled over one year alone 17 times for minor speeding, and I was very polite, talked my out of the tickets except for one. NEVER had any issue with money. 99.99% of the time you treat cops with respect they will treat you with respect.

EDIT: I traveled for work, covered a 6 state region.

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!

classic, just because it didn't happen to you doesn't mean it doesn't happen. What lets you think that your experiences are the guide line for everybody else? There are plenty of documented cases on record.

Just how many times in your life have you carried $17,500?

Anyone?

That much money usually means only one thing.

"... untill proven innocent at your own expence and at a snail's pace. " Welcome to Mexico.

I remember reading about a place where you were inocent untill proven guilty. An archeological project had found evidence that a place like that actually existed once.

Its called common sense. Don't break the law when you drive, don't carry illegal drugs with you when you drive.

IF you don't like the way they do it, I hear they are hiring. All over.

Common sense says there's some people in positions of power that have little concern for what common sense says is "right".
