Standard Practices 2016

Ronald, It is called open source. There are many companies doing this on a smaller scale. It is a radical idea, but if I felt the product was good and I knew that I had an unlimited source of repair parts, I would buy that product above others. Lets face it, this guy is probably mic'ing other products and using their designs as a basis for his own. This is what China is doing each and every day. Reverse engineering is the industry norm.

I was really thinking, designer got a couple of years manuf and sales then turned over the design to "kit cutters". The user could turn to them for one-off parts for the next 25years or longer. The original guy could get a cut of the parts profit and be free to move on and innovate. Lets face it, this is not rocket science.
Why would a manufacturer spend money on R&D, testing, and manufacturing to the turn around and give that info away?

There is MUCH more to building a heli, or anything really, than just cutting parts. There is a lot of testing, liability, design etc that people put into a product. If the product was plastic covers for a side frame, then yes, give away the code. Very little R&D goes into that.
If I went to school for years to become an engineer, take the time to design, test, manufacture, market, sell, ship, then warranty an item, I am not going to just GIVE the design out to some Jo Shmo with a CNC or 3D printer so he can make his own repair parts (possibly out of inferior plastics, CF, or metal) that fails and makes my design look like a failure....

It's absolutely beautiful work / especially the surfaces finishes and know how to get it their - stunning.

Started with Loose Lip's sink Ship's

Then ?

Industrial Espionage / Then Theft of Intellectual property

Ramped up in the late 60's

Then the International Ambassadors on tour from the Chamber of Commerce:

Reverse Engineering is a NEW P.C. Word for THEFT

Then they closed the plant and sent all the Engineering Drawing's and Production to them : Better price /Better product / Lower Wage / Lower cost over all. Including the peripheral cost of business and remote ancillary's. They do not work for what we work for - and they take tremendous pride in their work. They compete even for the privilege.

They do have a very serious bigger problem - I can only imagine -
THAT COST

That is stunning work ! It's above VERY GOOD - Top SHELF : BAR NONE =
Credit where Credit is Due !
Especially the swash carrier: We are busy stuffing pillows.
Sorting Coat hangers and trying on flip flop's.

NICE WORK !

DRAWING rendering is wicked ! { DRAWING } OLd SCHOoL

I am talking about after the money cycle of the product. When there is no money left to be made, and you have orphaned a lot of birds for lack of part.

If going into the purchase, I knew that Brand-X has agreed in principle to donate the IP to the public domain after they are done supporting the product. I would consider that favorably in my purchase decision of the product in the first place.

How many heli brands have come and gone?

That is at least 10 years....if that is your driving decision of how you would purchase a heli, then you have missed a lot. When the parts run out....upgrade
