I was looking at the new Goblin Black Nitro as my next heli.

But, I started looking at the investment I have in my existing Trex 700N and comparing the features of the Goblin vs. Trex 700N

The cost of the Goblin Black Nitro stretched to 700 is in the neighborhood of $1,200 (airframe only).
The ready to fly weight of the Black Nitro is in the same ballpark as the Trex 700N

I also have to factor in that I have the Custom Heli Products (CHP) 700N DL frame conversion that gives me direct swash-to-servo links instead of the sloppy bellcranks

I really couldn't justify the cost of the Goblin.

But, I have a hankering for a three bladed tail & head.

Just in time, Align now has the 3-bladed tail & head conversion kits

I jumped in.

I bought the tail and the head from HeliProz (the new one is in China).
The tail rotor kit was $58
The head was $209.

The conversion is remarkably easy
Every thing fits.

The head uses the standard 700 DFC mainshaft, so it is a drop in replacement. I could have unbolted the old DFC head, removed the swash and replaced them with the new parts and left the old DFC mast in place. I went with the all new parts and dropped in the 3-blade assembly.

There were only minor linkage adjustments to be made (raise the swash by 1.5mm) and then set the 0-degree point using the swash-to-grip links.

The 3-bladed tail was even easier.
The kit includes the pitch slider and and bushing.
Other than assembling the grips to the hub, it was a drop in replacement for the 2-bladed unit.
This is designed for use with the multi-link tail pitch control system, so you need that before you begin
There was no adjustments required.
The 0-degree point was the same as the 2-blade and the endpoints were close enough.

Because everything went so well, I have to find something to complain about: The swash to grip links on the head look like they are turnbuckles - they are not.
They are standard links with a hex-profile at the mid-point.
I am not sure why they did that.

Everything that is preassembled is "dry fitted".
The instruction do a great job of highlighting that.
In many cases, the part is lightly screwed into place, but very loose.
Check every screw or bolt, and add blue Loctite to everything and you are gold.
Do not use red anywhere. They even warn you about that too.

The pictures shows 3 Zeal 710mm blades mounted.
That's for pictures only.
That is not what I will fly (I just happen to have a 2nd set sitting around).

I did fly two tanks with the 3-bladed tail rotor.
I had to turn down the gain on the gyro.
The jury is still out on this one.
It looks good though.

I ordered a 3-pack of ZEAL ENERGY 3-Blade Carbon Fiber Main Blades 690mm (Yellow) for $134 and a 3-pack of ZEAL 3-Blade Carbon Fiber Tail Blades 105mm (Yellow) for $32.
I should have those today or Monday.

I didn't plan it at the time, but the three 'lightning bolts' on the Fusuno Monster Energy DFC canopy looks good with the folded blades.
FYI: The DFC canopy is a drop on replacement for the older 700N "bikini" canopies.

Good move :-)
I sold my 700n DFC and bought the goblin nitro and sold it after 4 flights .
Then bought the Gaui Nx7 which is ok but still don't think it's as good overall as my Trex .
I'm hoping align are gonner bring out a new Heli soon , the grass is not greener I won't leave them again

That's what Align needs to do ASAP if they want to stay in the game and maybe crush the new gobby in the process

If align released this heli as kit

I would love to see 1 of these kits in a 600 size

spending time, paying attention

If you mean the 3-bladed head / tail, I would agree.

I would expect to see a conversion kit for the "550" rather than the 600 specifically.
But, we all know the 550 / 600 share most all of the same (important) parts.

I use the RC-TEC 3 bladed tail rotor on my 600E Pro.
That eliminated the tail blow-out problem at 2100 RPM headspeed.

RC-TEC makes beautiful parts.
They are hand-made by a guy in NY and they carry a premium price.

Now, they have a three bladed head & tail for the Trex 550 / 600

I bought them and mounted them on my Trex 600 Nitro

Today was the maiden flight.
Wow.
It was awesome
