I am truly sorry to hear that but he is 71 years old and one of my favorite saying is "old age is completely overrated' I doubt that I will be able to contribute to my career at 71 and sometimes it is time to fade into the sunset. He was incredibly talented but all good things must come to an end.

wow,, are you kidding me, he would have played to 110 if he lived that long, my father was an electrician, he worked to 70, and he died at 71 from an infection (a long story I wont tell here), he was in great shape, he would have worked till he was 80

Really hate to hear that too, great musician! Soooo many singers, actors I
grew up w. are now well into their retirement years. SAD!

Jerry K, there is SO much truth in your post!! Again sadly............

Just lost one of my favorites a few months back, Glenn Fry, that really hit
home for me, and the Eagles may or may not be done as a band...or of course
sure won't be the same!

a career is one thing, but playing the guitar is something different, if he didn't have nerve damage he could play till the day he dies

let me say it another way, work is work, I know people that work to only give themselves something to do,, playing the guitar may be work but it's a passion to Clapton, if he didn't have nerve damage he would play even if he couldn't walk

I use-to play (Les Paul, Carvin X Amp), I come to get tendon pain so I had to gave it up,, my friend is actually a very good guitarist, his bipolar wife took him threw one crazy divorce, and 10 years of child custody disputes in court ,, but when he picked up his guitar he left her way-way-way behind
