It's funny how one's current hobby can lead you back to a teenager want.

License or unlicensed operators at these field day events, you can learn and transmit worldwide if the bands allow it under supervision of the station operator.

Go to above link and find your local club hosting this.

Hope to hear you on the air.

Have had a license for quite a while (basically so I could fly 6 meter). Never did much with it other than that except for for some 2 meter stuff. Going to try and hit my first field day and explore things a little further. Got the ticket, should try and use it. Right?

There, their and they're. It's really that simple.

Good Luck on the Extra ticket, B.T.D.T.. I was hoping to be ready for the Field Day exam session here for my General. I haven't studied like I should have, so I'll have to do that at some later time.

W5HNZ,

You have plenty of time before field day to study for it. Go for it! Then you can get into HF and spend more money. Lol. Good luck to you too.

Interesting discussion. I got my general license as a teenager in the 60's and was extremely active for a few years on the HF bands, mostly
CW but some AM and SSB voice. My license was allowed to expire as I discovered cars, women, school, drinking and moved on with life. I spent most of my working years with commercial communications and microwave so I got my fill of RF work there. I retired 3 years ago and have thought a few times about getting a HAM license again. Not sure what I would do with it but thought it might be fun to relive the past a bit and maybe recreate an old time station.

Reading up on licensing I was surprised to see the code requirement now gone and the whole license process quite simplified. It was a long hard process getting a license in the past but you were quite proud of it when you finally got there. Not unlike getting a private pilots license.

I'm just now reading up on what it is like to be a HAM today but it is clear the activity has changed a lot, just like everything in life has. I'll explore further and may rejoin the ranks once again.

Got my Extra ticket last night and HRO has a sale on the Yaesu FTDX3000D that I was eyeing.
Now I have to decide if I want to jump into this new hobby on the HF side. They say that's where all the fun starts.
I guess field day will help me decide.

Only picked up 3 HT's 2meter/70cm and 1 HT. DMR in the past few months since I started. This hobby is just as bad as helis. Also wanting to try FPV quads racers. I wished money grew on trees.

Sad part is spare time is limited and I have not flown once this year. Due to family, work and weather.

But today I plan on getting my Heli ready and be on the field later this morning.

KB3VTF here

I got my tech license to use 900mhz video, now I see everyone using it without a license. Still plan to get general, but don't do much.

Funny thing here was I was getting my tech ticket for FPV. A week earlier I was told I can take the next levels the same day if I pass the perious level.
So study for the week and got both tickets.
Since I didn't get into FPV, I got the few HT. Then I figure since I still remember this I mind as well study a little more and get the last level.

Well today was interesting. I test flew my friends racing quad and now I want one more than the radio. Watch me order the FPV quad and next week on field day get hook back to radio too.

missed it again.

Have never made it to field day. Was planning on it this time, but decided to have a heart attack instead.

Damn!
How're doing?

It's just like camping. Set up shelter, folding tables and chairs, climb tree to tie off antenna, setup radios, roll out extension cord and plug in generator.

I was at the seat at 2pm so I made the first contact.

Yeah, crashing is part of it. Like to be alway prepared.
