Hope not. May not be the in thing, but I will always enjoy flying single disk.

It only dies if we don't fly. Get out there and keep it alive.

Several years ago i wanted to sell off some of my gear. The economy was in the toilet and prices that used gear was fetching seemed a little low, so i figured i would wait a year or two.... Now all of my stuff is completely worthless!!! Hahahah!!!

Almost all of my buddies stopped flying, and i am a heli zombie, only fly the old gear once in a while, and have very little interest in new gear.

I suspect a lot of guys have a hobby room full of old stuff. No one to buy it, they dont want to give it away, no room for new toys. Stagnated.

it peaked around 2008 - 2010... its just going back down to is original "obscure" levels IMO...

the drone scene has taken the market share and Helis are no longer en vogue among capable RC pilots.

I dont think it will die completely for a very long while...but it is changing and demand is just not what it used to be... this trend will likely continue kill off the weaker brands of models and associated aftermarket parts brands and a few strong ones will remain...

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

was a few guys flying helis at the field now im the only one that still flies thats including airplanes. Kinda hard to get motivated when your the only one that goes out there. Some of the retired guys go out there but they just sit and talk. Very few local events anymore plus its getting mighty hot around here so that doesnt help.

I had the field all to myself tonight, flying a "new to me" Bergen Intrepid gasser. I just got back into helis after a 10+ year break. I'm having a ball and prefer to fly alone. I like the old stuff, too. My other helis are a Raptor 30 and X-Cell 46. Both were rebuilt this winter. I'm not retired and when I do get a bit of time to fly, I want to go out and fly, not flap my jaw.

I never ever thought I would stop riding dirt bikes, I had a couple great bikes, then all my friends 1 by 1 sold off their bikes, my brother soled his bike, and I didn't want to find new friends to ride with, so after a couple years I sold my 2 bikes,

for helis, a lot of people get burned out on the building and rebuilding and maintenance

The hobby is dying, the drone thing has really came about and clubs are starting to chase away members. If someone comes out with a drone, get them to join, then try to motivate them to fly real heli's.

Kevin, that is a gorgeous bird!

I ended up with an older Preditor gasser i got cheap from a friend who left the hobby... Not anywhere near as nice as your bergen, but still, i was very pleasantly suprized by it.

This hobby like any hobby will die if you let it die. Meanwhile there will be others coming and going while you are here.

if you worry about getting parts, start buying them. I like my 600N so much I have more spares than most hobby shops. I plan on flying it for another 10 years

spending time, paying attention

I think this "illness" period is very much related to the economy. When did the downturn start? 2008 most agree. When did the economy crash? 2008. This is an elitist hobby. I had to stop for several years after I lost a ton in real estate in 2008-20012. Got into drones because it was cheap, almost no repair or maintenance cost at all. Looking to get back into helis as my financial situation has stabalized. Let's get some new leadership in November, stir things up, stimulate our economy and I bet you rc helis come back in a big way. For now let's not let it go away completely.

I agree about Parts. I like the TREX line and have more parts around the "shop" than I hope I will ever need. I like the Nitro but everything is transitioning to electric. However nothing sounds better than an Auto with a Nitro bird.

I do not think it is dying, maybe a little life support.

I was really into flying around 2002 and was burning at least a gallon of fuel a week with (2) 30 sized helicopters. Flew the crap out of them. I was driving 94 miles each way on Saturdays to fly with other heli pilots. The clubs around did everything they could to keep helicopters out.

We lost our field, soccer moms and the PTA said it was unsafe and noisy. So we lost the permit to fly on the high school grass field. I still flew like crazy on my own runway. But it is fun to fly with others.

The bug has returned and I just flew a Blade 550x a couple weeks ago. Almost have all the OLD antiques ready to fly again. I have my Raptor 30v1 ready to fly this weekend, will get my Nexus 30 in the air soon. Been flying my Cypher. Will test fly a MX450SX and a RC-TEK Diablo this weekend.

Looking at the cost to get a helicopter in the air, way more then the old Crappy Rappy. Only way I was able to get the 550x was on close out for $250.00. I have a close out tail servo for $50.00, $22.00 cyclic servos, $62.00 6s battery. If I did not shop like a mad man for 9 months, it would still be in the box on the shelf.

No way I could put a new 570 in the air with all the good stuff. Just not in my budget. Budget got shrunk so I started flying the foam planes and cheap stuff. Still flew and had a good time, just was not able to drop the kind of money for the good stuff.

I do have a fear of flying as if I crash, I may not be able to get the parts let alone afford them.

Buzz.

I used to only fly nitro, even my planks are electric, love the power and reliability, and only clean the dead bugs off the blades. Now I hope soon can come out more battery time, I have over 600 flights on my synergy e5s, great ship, and a e7se that's awesome. Hard to find time to fly only some weekend, and now more heath problems. When feeling good I get about 10-14 flights with planks too. And I did love the nitro smell, not the cleaning. I use a small generator for my 308 duo I charger, and have 2 sets of packs for everything. Even my extreme flight 91" yak. Here with the cost of property is so high we rent are 2 fields, one is only electric they built homes all around it, are other field is gas , nitro and electric, but summer rains flood it sometimes for months. I'm hoping some guy or gals will get bored of quads and start to fly helis. For the cost today I think its cheaper then years ago, radios, servos, electric motors are not bad for the price, maybe few brands are high like my e flight 360, but I think the prices will come down, batteries can get high too, most I have are 6s and fly 12s 3750 mah to 5800 mah,45c Nitro is high here I used Byron 30% had to buy a case or more at the time, I think nitro will be here for awhile yet. I think what will kill nitro, is better batteries like 3d flights with 10-12 minutes of flight time. and the noise.
