I was just wondering, if we will need to have our
aircraft ( Helicopters ) inspected by an FAA inspector
( with a nominal fee for each ) to show it's airworthy.
Probably need another inspection after a crash too.

He's talking about the modeling equivalent of mandatory inspections by an FAA certified A&P mechanic. Full scale aircraft have to do it with annuals, 100hrs, etc. He's posting a hypothetical sheeyat storm of the FAA eventually requiring each of our models to have some kind of an airworthiness certificate to go along with the registration certificate we'll be required to carry when we fly.

Guys, the FAA is probably uninterested in administrating to this level for toys. I can imagine a slim possibility later on down the road for large aircraft and turbines, but they aren't going to inspect your 450 logs to see if it's got an annual.

This is likely a very unfounded worry. And that's coming from me, worry champion. LOL.

We should have a hyperbole thread for laughs.

Unfortunately, Poe's law would kick in.

Well i knew the FAA requires us to register as pilots but not individual aircraft.

Just wondering where the requirement for an annual was coming from.

I am not sure if this was a typo but it was cut from the most recent letter sent out by the AMA. Up to this letter, my understanding was the pilot was to be registered not the aircraft. I find it hard to believe the AMA made a mistake like this in a letter to the general membership.

"As we proceed with this process, we suggest AMA members hold off on registering their model aircraft with the FAA until advised by the AMA or until February 19, the FAA's legal deadline for registering existing model aircraft."[quote]

An error. Sure. But I see no reason to nitpick that. Message meaning is clear despite that typo. "Don't register."

I'm sure things are in frenzy at AMA HQ. But they are taking action finally. Let's try to support and try to not sweat the small stuff.

Finally? Read the AMA letter again. Their petition to the court was issued back in August. That seems more proactive, than reactive.

I imagine it's in the works and that's why we are not registering until deadline.

Conversely, AMA may pursue automatic registration for members. Of course this most likely would be voluntary.

I think he meant filing an injunction, C&D, or the sort.

Is this a move I think AMA needs to make? Yes. But we'll need to have a little patience. Because as much as I'd like to see that now, this is the court system we're talking about. I'm starting to concede that we're not going to get much traction on this before Christmas. That's just the nature of it. Not assigning blame - other than maybe the court system is cumbersome.

Thoughts?
