Hi all
I am starting building a Starwood lama with overall weight some 18Kg
What servos should I fit , how much torque ? I am thinking about 12kg DS 8915 JR servos . But wondering why not DS8911 JR with 25 Kg torque ?
Any info welcome
Thanks
Andre

The 8915 is not an HV Servo, but is faster than the 8911. I do not expect you will be doing 3D with that machine so the speed is not as critical. I don't think you could go wrong with the added power of the 8911 and the HV servos make setup easier. I think either one will do the job.

Both are not HV servos ....
So my question was : Should I prefer power to speed :
DS8911 : 25kg 0,19s for 60°
DS8915 : 12Kg 0,09s for 60°

Regards
Andre

They do not seem to sell the DS 8911 here in the states without it being the HV version. On a machine of that weight, I would go with the best servo you can get. The HV servo is only about $30 more. My opinion is with that weight, torque is more important than speed.

Andre,

I am using Futaba BLS272HV servos in all positions in my Starwood Lama Turbine heli. It flys great with these and a V bar with XXT Extreme firmware. I power the servos with 2S A123 cells (x 2 for safety)

Hi
Thanks Sandy for informations ...
I made my choice for the servos : DS 8911 for cyclic ( 25Kg 0,19s for 60° ) and DS 8915 ( 12 Kg but 0,09 s for 60 ° )
Now having the choice for Vbar and Bavarian demon ( very popular in Europe for Scale ....) I am wondering which one I will use ?
I am used to Vbar for years and bought the BD for my Vertol .... Works very fine .
Sandy : would you mind sharing the set-up you made in the Vbar ?
I did not put the XXT Extreme firmware in a Vbar yet ....
Happy Christmass to all

Andre,

If you chose V bar, I STRONGLY recommend you get the XXT firmware before you even try to fly it. Trust me on this.
I am traveling now and will send my V bar program to you at the first of the year, if you pm me your e mail address.

Andre,
I also rearrange the servo positions on my Starwood Lama by flipping the servo mounting over, so the linkage rods from the servo wheels (not arms!) Are straighter going to the bellcranks.
