With the 3 blade head, do you have to use the SAB blade set or can you use 3 blades of the same manufacturer, same weight and same length??

Ive wondered this same question but found that you can't just slap on any 3 blades that weigh the same as the 3D sets of 3 are manufactured lighter for the added weight of an extra blade. Right now there's only 3 brands to work with that come in sets which are SAB, Helix and Zeal. I'm sure over time, as this fad sticks, more will offer sets of 3 to give more options. Hope this helps!

I looked at the weight of the 3 blade set from Zeal and they are 193.3, so I will weight the ones I have and see. If they are more I will get a set of Zeals, thanks.

I have flown 3 blade machines for over a year and have matched up 2 blade sets with a 3rd blade. The only reason this is not so practical is you need 2 sets of blades to make 1. They work fine as long as they have the same weight and balance. That is mostly what the blade manufacturers are doing anyway. The only difference is the new F3C version that have a thinner chord and width.

3 blades for a 2 blade head will definitely work, no question about that. According to the engineering , these blades will have a reduction in efficiency ( figure of merit) than those specifically designed for 3 blade heads. I know one difference is in the width of the chord.

Xblades and DH make some three blade sets, but they may not be easy to get in the US. You may can get http://www.peakaircraft.com/ to order them because they carry both brands.
