Drdot, Hey if you look at my posts today you'll see no love for the AMA. But badgering them is wasted energy. They won't fix this. I'm not even sure it's in their bottom line to try.

If u have time after contacting your government elected reps, tomato away.

But. Priorities. Ya know?

Just got back from Frys electronics super store, here in San Diego.
Three full rows of just drones, or whatever you like to call them.
Every size, price, and color..

Then I see sitting off to the side a lonely heli, over priced but surely made of the finest silver painted plastic money can buy.

The news channels are reporting that Santa has over 400 thousand drones in his big red bag for all the good boys and girls. Yes big kids too.. The more the merrier right? Surely the Grinch will sport a sinister grin when a large airliner sucks in one or two of a Chinese elf's fine craftsmanship.

Ho, Ho, Ho Merry Christmas!

Its all earth!

I stand corrected. Anything that you can put into the sky and control via radio is considered a UAS. Take a 2x4 and strap an electric motor to it, spin it up into the sky and it would require being registered.

this really sucks

I think they should just make it simple. If you fly anything in area that we don't recommend to fly..(near people, near airports etc commonsense) should be fined.

That's how all the problem started.. Stupid quad pilots with camera rigs flying them everywhere because it don't require any skills!

Curious

Is local law enforcement going to enforce this?
Has anyone asked them?

Also, if they do enforce it how will they enforce this?

You nailed it!
The very ones that caused this day to come, are the very ones this will not
affect at all, because they won't CARE! Rules/regs won't mean anything to
them and never have. Most likely, the ones that have been making the news,
will get their 'kicks', get their fill, and move on to something else, it
was never really a hobby to them anyway.
Leaving all those of us that have been in this for years, flying "MODEL
AIRCRAFT", to deal with the results of their 'quadiot' actions.
100% correct

FAA new Drone Registration Process

We should all protest by registering using the older paper-based system instead of the new web site and wait until the last day to register.

I am not afraid of the $5, I am more worried about the fact that now they know how many Helis/aircraft you have and they know where to come get them if necessary. A couple of idiots ruined it so far for is and I am just afraid of the knee jerk reactions people who are ignorant, who coincidentally write out laws, can be.

How are they going to know how many models you have when you don't have to register one single thing about any your models including number owned? Did you even read what the FAA released?

gloomy doomy stuff,
They cant control the airspace they rule now.
from LASER POINTERS, so who do they take their inferiority complex out on for not doing enough regarding policing Laser Pointers, the model rc aircraft market. Reported "drone" incidents =10 maybe even less a year, Laser Pointer incidents of passenger aircraft pilots harassed by Laser Pointers = 5000 a year, making the cat pay for the bear's destruction.

$5 now, more later, 1.5millon rc aircraft sold a year = $7.5 million DOLLARS in the poorly funded FAA's pockets and add in all the AMA membership etc etc.

Your battery weighs 10lb and your airframe .5lb you should not have to register as your battery is not a flying object, honestly the airframe can be tethered with a power line so mode of fuel does not look to be enforceable in a weight test, a battery is not a uav.

They must send their Gestapo to every park, ama field, back yard, living room, school yard, etc etc etc in the future to really stomp the asses of those "quadiots" who buzz airports with rc uas multis from now on, they' are a real plague ohh yes, compared to Laser Pointers (which the FAA can do NOTHING about and is the REAL PROBLEM).

looks like your being tagged like a dog, if you go missing they'll locate you and return you to the rightful owner. If they couldn't enforce a gun registry how could they enforce a toy registry, weak at the knees.

The way things work if you cause a problem with your rc toy and you don't have a registry they'll pick your pocket with an additional fine of failing to register, you go tell the court you were playing with a toy that is the same as a sports ball entering the FAA airspace and precedent will fall on the FAA to register ALL objects entering the US airspace or drop it, the ball and the registry,

CAMMON what is this WW3 on toys? guns are toys to some people, quads and rc heli don't exactly kill every day so what the f is with the FAA inferiority complex? taking it out on the rc enthusiast?

there's a lot of good, bad, and ugly people in the world, the bad and ugly gang up on the good and guess who pays?

FAA Drone registration system

I am more fearful of the actual registration system. This will be a totally unverified database. Do you want them having your personal information, like your credit card info? This aircraft number that you must place on each one of your aircraft is beyond your control to protect from illegal copying. Imaging your neighbor thinks you are having an affair with his wife. He copies your number, marks it on a drone that he has purchased and flys it into a airport control tower. You are in for many hours in a dark interrogation room and possibly large legal fees defending yourself.

The AMA does not have the power to stop this from going into effect. It not that they didn't TRY, they are simply overwhelmed by the power of the Government bureaucracy.

I agree with Dave, the AMA did everything they possibly could and I support them 100%.

I hope that every one on here understands that there is going to be a lawsuit over this. Congress has already passed a law stating to keep your hands off of the RC hobby industry. every one on here is getting their panties in a bunch. Lets wait and see what happens in the future. I have to admit the Obama pukes tend to ignore laws that are already on the books because they think they have a dictatorship going on here, but lets let the courts decide this one. The AMA is just a bunch of guys like the rest of us trying to do the right thing.....I think????
