Just thinking out loud:

Is anyone planning on not registering?

Does anyone feel that the AMA has not done enough to prevent this?

What would happen if no one complied with registering?

Not at first, saving $5 doesn't mean much to me. I want to watch the show for the next 2 months.

The AMA does not have the power to stop this from going into effect. It not that they didn't TRY, they are simply overwhelmed by the power of the Government bureaucracy.

Do you think all of the millions of clueless idiots buying drones at malls and on eBay are going to register? Haha, yeah right.

Do you think the guys flying drones over crowds and near airports (who obviously have no regard for the law, regulations, or common sense for that matter) are going to register? Haha, yeah right.

The only individuals who are going to register are the responsible hobbyists (i.e. suckers).

So what would happen if AMA says " We think it would be in our best interest if our members ignore registering?"

first of all they have no means to restrict or control who has a RC TX or is doing RC.
All the AMA is good for is providing the FAA with your names and addresses.

if an economy can flourish underground so can a hobby shhhh

when the tax man gets greedy we all contribute to it around here.

this is what friends are for, sooner or later

spending time, paying attention

Fwiw....

A line has been crossed....
The AMA has just been rendered irrelevant...
As one who has been watching this debacle unwrap for some time, I feel the AMA has shown itself to be in the pocket of the faa...
These "regulations are a distraction.....the main event will come when someone does down an airliner with a drone...then expect the FBI to show up at your door confiscating your aircraft.
Why...?..because no distinction was made for model aircraft vs drones...had they defined a drone as some arial conveyanve equipped with a camera and or gps, I would have no issue...but this display of bright line thinking is over the top.
Ask yourself....why not simply require a pilot to place his SS number in the canopy...easy, no fees required.
Why not your AMA number?...again, no new fees needed..
Ask as well what percentage of uav users will know about these regulations...of that percentage, how many will comply?....
I am at a crossroads... do I comply? ...If I do, then I certainly will not have funds available to renew my AMA membership.
I would urge everyone who cares to contact the AMA and your representatives immediately. If we press them hard enough we may force a delay in implementation as our lawsuit goes forward. I would suggest that the regulations are made illegal by section 336 preventing the faa from such actions, as well as the legal principle of estoppel...We have flown in the airspace as we have for so long our process becomes de facto law...

Please..whether you agree or disagree, find time to make phone calls tomorrow. This cannot stand.

John.

You nailed it!

The very ones that caused this day to come, are the very ones this will not
affect at all, because they won't CARE! Rules/regs won't mean anything to
them and never have. Most likely, the ones that have been making the news,
will get their 'kicks', get their fill, and move on to something else, it
was never really a hobby to them anyway.

Leaving all those of us that have been in this for years, flying "MODEL
AIRCRAFT", to deal with the results of their 'quadiot' actions.

We have until February. In the short term I'm not registering. Want to see if it can be fought. Worth the 5$ to not give this "law" legitimacy at the very time it's being fought.

Long term. If it survives. I comply. I flew full size. Fighting the FAA is a recipe for pain.

Even if u choose to comply, doesn't mean it isn't boosheet. Have every right to complain even if u choose to comply.

I am already planning on going to the AMA show in January with the express purpose of abusing the attending AMA officials.
They had better be working on the heavy bag..It won't be pretty.

Anyone want to bring the tomatos?

Badgering the AMA will be ineffective. Stop barking up that tree. We're on our own.

Spend energy where it's effective. Contact your government representatives. That's your voice. Thinking any amount of badgering will turn the AMA into our voice is just more of the same with expected same results.

They cant control the airspace they rule now.....you think their gonna come after modle airplanes and helis. Only if they crash into something will they get the number.....if its registered. More government intrusion.....only one solution kill all quads. I am gonna move at the next club meeting we ban quads from our field.
The fad of flying quads will go away with a few crashes and they realize their videos look like all the other videos on youtube....interest in quads will go away with the next fad and we will be left with the mess they made.
