Yes. Most of us have been acting responsibly for decades. Yes, some sort of regulation ENFORCEMENTS are needed. But this FAA plan is useless and potentially illegal. You must ACT or lose more rights.

I urge everyone to file for an exemption. I am certainly not against commercial use of RC aircraft (I do not use the "D" word). But for the FAA to already grant some 2500 (and counting) exemptions merely because a company promises to fly below 400ft, outside of geo-fences, and have a spotter is not grounds for an exemption that will not be granted to a responsible hobbyist. If you allow this you might as well hang up your hat. Register for an exemption based upon discriminating factors. Google is watching.

God created only a few perfect heads...the rest he put hair on them.

How about not registering in protest

on the day they start let the crickets chirp in their offices.
instead of lining up like sheep to be slaughtered.

Don't jump into this and hose us all to save 5$. Hold off and see if we can't undo this. I invite each of you to realize the AMA is not going to fix this...only we can. Call your local representative bodies and senates to make your case. An injunction is the only way we are going to fix this, long term. And don't wait on the AMA. That's what got us here.

It's up to YOU!

They try to bait us for support by paying a low fee or free to start and then when they have enough support they win.

Don't register

That's how Taxation started

a man made law will not stand if no one obeys it or if it can not be enforced.

It's not a law. The only recognized lawmaking bodies in this country are representative.

...they can go lick a D---!

do they expect every man, woman and child that flies any RC aircraft, to include that cheap crap they sell at Malls, Walmart, Target, Sears, Toys-R-Us etc, to abide by this BS?

this is just another TAX....sound familiar, buy this cheap or it will cost you more.

nothing but another self funding bureaucratic waste for government stooges to steal from the populace and line their pockets without lifting a finger.

bet you next thing they try is an incentive program to local law enforcement agencies to seek out and ticket RC fliers... watch.

they will give a portion of the fine imposed to the local law enforcement coffers to help push it.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

I'm a little fuzzy...why did the FAA decide to lump us old-school heli and plank flyers in again with the troublesome drones?

http://www.faa.gov/news/updates/media/20151213_IFR.pdf

I love this quote from page 38:

The National Association of Broadcasters asserted that UAS registration is a reasonable step to mitigate the dangers posed by a small minority of hobbyist UAS operators that are flying in a careless and reckless manner that endangers the public.

This sends a chill for the whole heli-plank industry. As if it already isn't having a tough time now.

But alas, sadly I will register, because life is too short. Must let go, and focus on the important.

Lets see....

on one hand - Pay $5 and register, have a good time and don't interfere with the National Airspace.

on the Other hand - Don't Pay $5 and refuse to register. Get caught, Get fined up to $27,500 and up to 3 years in jail

You do the math...

a reasonable step to mitigate the dangers

Please. Do tell me how this actually reduces danger? It doesn't. The feckless will not register, and the bad guys will probably register under someone else's number. This is stupid. Unenforceable. A TAX. Nothing more.

Lick boot, avoid kick to head.

Sure. I might comply to avoid punishment. Doesn't mean it's not total BULL$H1T

In the meanwhile - the deadline isn't until February. I still advise everyone to NOT COMPLY in this initial period, simply to save 5 bucks. We may reverse it yet. If we turn out losing, it's worth 5$ to have fought it. Early large scale compliance will legitimize the "law" even as it's being fought. Then we won't stand a chance of injunction/reversal.

Don't jump in just yet!

So if I play Frisbee, and don't register, am I in violation of the regulation? A Frisbee of less than 9 ounces doesn't fly very well.
