Sure glad the FAA is doing this. I feel safer allready!!!! I just know that this will absolutely, 100% prevent the idiot from doing idiotic things with his/her rc model aircraft.

5bucks ain't gonna make or brake the issue
it isnt about where it "starts"..its about where it "ends". Its pretty much a guarantee it wont stay at 5 bucks. Next it will be 10, then 20, then 100, then yearly...then property taxes AND registration fees....then a Certificate of Airworthiness and Liability Insurance to go along with it..Its all bull****, and it will be real interesting to see just how a quarter million dollar FINE for non registration and a 13 year old pilot will be brought to justice for being a "criminal"..Might as well take up drinking and driving. Its FAR cheaper. These laws are ludacris. There is NO need for these level of fines simply for failure to comply with a freaking registration. This country has gone off the deep end.

Dont think its just "drones" either..its EVERYTHING 0.55 lbs and over.

Ban the Ban.

Everything R/C that flies. Is anyone a member of any fixed wing forums? It would be interesting to hear of their reaction since this affects them too, and there are more fixed wing pilots than rotary wing pilots.

9th amendment? Would you be happy if they told you that you couldn't fly any more just because?

The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

This one was put in the framers to prevent abuse of the Constitution... It was not intended to be a free for all to say that anything not written on that parchment in 1789 goes.
I don't have to quote the constitution.
Its my RIGHT to be happy! its a human right.
but if you need a person to tell how to think
life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, that's in the Declaration of Independence, if your not sure what that is, look it up.
The right to pursuit of happiness is in the Declaration, and it was part of the spirit that this nation was foudned upon; but that doesnt carry an legal weight in American Law. Those words are not in the Constitution itself.

Lets use your analogies and do a though experiment.

** What if I declared that it makes me happy to burn tires in my yard and have the toxic smoke cross your property?

** What if I declared it makes me happy to drive my car across your lawn?

See where I am going with this? Its nothing but a cop-out to pull that "right to pursue happiness" argument, an excuse to validate doing whatever you want without regard to the consequences and affect on others. That argument wouldn't last 10 seconds in a courtroom.

Actually, no. Licensed private pilots have told me the fee to register a full scale aircraft (even a 747) is $5 and has been for decades. this is just FAA policy.

Sure it wont...Like everything else "government". That will remain to be seen.

WHY not just go with this kind of law for FPV ONLY type systems then? Why did they target everything that flies? Model aircraft have existed for ages. Since they made anything beyond LOS illegal, then whom are they targeting? Lil Jimmy with his 0.60 LB quad wouldnt be able to SEE his drone LOS far enough away to even interfere with aircraft operations in the first place, unless he was standing at the end of the damn runway!

I would throw GPS and autonomous capability in there too.... and anything else that allows non LOS operation.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

The FAA is creating another defacto "Airman" registry. You put something into the air- you ARE an airman and will be subject to all the FAA Federal Aviation Regulations.

Anyone possessing a certificate,Pilot,Air Traffic Controller,Airframe/Powerplant mechanic,Check Pilot that relies on Part 91,135 or 121 had better realize that ANY violation- even alleged,will possibly result in the revocation of their privileges.

Anyone else,accepting the absolute epic fail of the AMA,to convince the FAA, that membership is sufficient to satisfy this government TAX on HOBBY ACTIVITY is ignorant of the future destruction of our hobby.

Its not that big of a deal,or its just 5 dollars and I'll pay and register so I can fly is a really myoptic viewpoint. This IS a big deal. Im the FAA and Im here to help you.......Get ramp checked flying your rented Cessna and you'll find out what I mean.

AMA Government Relations Committee sold us out. Period.OR- they have absolutely no political clout. All those dues and you can't pay the right people? Without convincing that FAA that AMA membership satifies the registration requirement without ANY further action by us is a disgrace. Not to mention a rediculous dues increase and now this BS- they need to drop the AXE next time they take our back.

Tell me the AMA did not see the drone proliferation as a means to replenish their coffers with advertising money. Tell me how they ignored the warnings of experienced modelers about the danger of RTF semiautonomous or autonomous uas systems that didnt require ANY knowledge,training or mentorship that most of us have been through.No learning curve- charge the radio and main pack,launch from your front yard and actually NOT crash. No Flying Field, no 70+ dollar membership required to create havoc.Further,now they take the position that it could be worse? Seriously. We all should be blowing the AMA site off line with negative comments. Epic Fail.
