Nice fix Emile! Cool on board video too. Were the wood side frames really flexing that much, or was it just an optical illusion?

Thanks Barry. Oh no, that kinda flex wouldn't go well for very long before things came apart lol. Yes the interference and lack of a soft mounting made for a squirelly pic,

i always thought the t/r output shaft on this machine was to short when compared to the fullsize machine so I stretched things a smidgen.

yea Sidney, I phase it at the lower swash ring whenever possible. Jim, that's my spot for forward flying near my neighborhood. I use it while its there, the homes are popping up fast.

Ok so my frames made from lite ply proved to work very well so now I am using them as a template and cutting a set from G-10.
I utilized a few things form the original Roban frames like the servo tray and the bearing blocks for the tail rotor drive and tail boom assembly and gearbox. I mounts to the fuselage just the same way as the original and takes up the same amount of space. I got rid of the belt drive and pully and utilized the ol' main gear and pinion gear type drive train and added a clutch.

Great work! Should we expect a production run of this frame set?

well the 2017 nats are just around the corner so I need to get back on track with the Astar. I am making some more changes, (ya big surprise) I never liked the tube drive on this machine, very much the same on the trex series with the "spline" type end so I am changing it to the universal joint type. this allows me to angle things a bit between the mechs and the t/r gearbox. the roban gearbox proved to be a pain to remove so I removed it and installed the old trusty and proven miniature aircraft Xcell t/r gearbox. its compact and the direction can be reversed easily if needed. I also eliminated the internal tailboom and made the fuselages boom mounted using bulkheads.
the landing and taxi light housing is in place using the special material hidden in an empty cereal box

Wow man. You never cease to amaze me with your modifications. So the shaft that the ball joint is attached to is flexible? How are you mounting the tail gear box so it's rigid? I can't help but feel I'm just not seeing something.

The ball joint just allows some angularity or offset between the 2 gear boxes.
