Remember talking to my father in law about his experiences in North Africa,Monte Casino and clearing up the death camps. He never revealed anything that was too graphic, but said there were good and bad experiences, then there was hell.

My uncle was in Germany at the end.

He was shot in the neck but survived of course. I still remember him showing us kids that scar he had from the bullet.

He did see some of those concentration camps. In Germany and Poland. Some of them with the ovens. He would not talk about it much other than to say he was there.

He did a lot of serious drinking after the war and was not a very friendly man when he drank. He was damaged from the war. Badly. He was a big man with hands as big as a gorilla and as strong. When he got drunk he would head for the nearest bar to pick a fight. Both Mom and Dad said he seldom lost a one. He did that until his middle 50's. Then got into trouble with the law over his fighting and the judge apparently told him his fighting days were over unless he wanted to serve some serious jail time. He still kept at it on a smaller scale though.

He did raise a family with three kids (my cousins) and raced horses for a long time. He was an engineer and a very good one. He made a lot of money. But, he eventually kissed off his family and ended up dying alone in a small studio apt. I was told toward the end he was mean and drunk most of the time and ran everyone away from him. Even at the end he was still picking fights and winning. Hard to imagine with an old man. But true.

He always treated us kids real good. That's why I remember him so much. He would come over to the house and take us all out for milk shake and a movie about once a week. Cost him 35 cents each. That was in the early 50's up in Alaska. I will never, ever forget those days.

Liberty once lost, is lost forever.

Alf had a nervous breakdown after his five years away,he was a great guy, loved kids.Had a mean end with bowel cancer,i will always remember him. When Alf went to war he was one of the older guys, his lifelong friend Eddie was more or less a boy soldier lying about his age to get in the forces,Eddie said Alf looked after him throughout the war treating him like a younger brother.

War is hell

Keep IN minds we live in a less than perfect world we're born of sin
and will bare grudge of one another, what they have witnessed long ago
is not short of what happening now.

The worlds is still at war great man is in preparing moad making their
best weapon for part III, the future war will be even more devestated.

Bless are those who didn't witness part 1 and II, and hell for those
who will be around for WWIII, it's on the horizon now.

I was waiting on some honey but there aren't no Queen bee,
