I am interested in getting a 3D one but I am still trying to weed out the good from the bad. I saw the Ninja fly and was very impressed but from what I hear you have to have a JR radio to fly the thing???
Also looking at the voltage but haven't come across any video of it.

Man you must be on tour for some heli company if you consider that boring? Post some videos of yourself flying and lets see what you got
What part of this didn't you comprehend
I don't have anywhere near the skills of alan
It takes Alan's level of skill to be sponsored but it doesn't do much for me

I prefer this style of flying

Its called Smooth Big Air

Here are a few of the voltage. Two of Alon and one from Matt. I've got another one somewhere that Alon's father sent me, with him doing a pirouetting globe with it. I'll have to find it

Regarding arguments over "drone vs UAV vs UAS vs RC model"..etc.

That battle was fought, the media and general population decided we all fly "drones", and the horse has been dead for quite some time now. Waste of energy to keep beating it. Yes, I hate it too, but that's the way it is. I fought it for a long time here and finally realized I had lost. the Industry that designs/produces/manufactures multirotors uses the term "drone". The general population uses the term drone, and the ones with the most power, the media, uses "drone". We as modelers will not be successful in changing that. Very sad,.. but that's the way it is, and it's been that way in the industry for years now.

Spot on Gary!

I messed around with 3D quads last year and it was cool but mini quad FPV is where it's at. I am totally hooked now. So yes, I fly a drone.

Gary is right about losing the naming war but I prefer "aerial appliance" as opposed to Drone because that's what a stabilized multirotor really is. Any ID10T can fly it without training of any kind. Anything else requires skills.

gwright,
OK that first video convinced me. Looks like the voltage is going to be it. Now just have to wait for next week and see where I can get the best deal.

Alright here is the answer for banshee,
I fly remote control "things", if is off the ground into the third dimension I am interested in it. I bought a turbine airplane just to learn about turbine aircraft. I only fly the thing about once a year but I now have the knowledge of turbines. So along come's the quad thing and guess what.... something else to learn about.
I am not that closed minded as to leave out a segment of this great hobby. Yea the regular quads that can just fly around are a little boring ,but throw in a 3D capable machine and now it has my attention. So it could be you think that they are boring but I see it as an opportunity to further my knowledge of the hobby.

I like "aerial appliance" also. It's the best fit for the camera/utility segment. however,.. not going to continue beating that dead horse,..it's been dead for over a year now within the design/manuf/distribution/media/public awareness arenas.

If someone gave me a heli I am not sure I would know what to do with it. I am into filming and with the hexa copter, filming aerials what other choice do I have than to use a MR that is completely stable, sure would not use a heli flying up canyons that I do that has tree limbs sticking out. Would not waste the time trying to attach a gimbal and camera to a heli.

JayL,

Writes, “I will never own one its not a part of the hobby and they get boring real fast”

Jay what is it that you can do with your heli that in your words a MR is “boring” that I can’t do with a Multi-Rotor? Sure some heli’s have a gimbal mounted on their heli’s with a video camera but it’s not that common. I have seen some remarkable things done with a MR here of late mainly due to the accessibility of those so called $1000.00 over the counter MR’s.

For those who say any idiot can fly a MR, Hmmm how may Helis have GYRO’s to stabilize them?

Those who are venting are those that can’t except that the multirotor gets all the attention and every year the advancements in the MR world will continue to grow.

I'm one of those dude's that says any idiot can fly a stabilized multi rotor. That's how they are designed so that any idiot can fly them. If they weren't designed that way folks would have to get real experience and actually learn to fly. The manufacturer's dumb the systems down precisely for those folks that have no flight skills, no line of sight skills and no flight time in the type. Speaking for myself I can fly model helicopters without gyros.

If it was good attention we might have something to talk about

But its bad attention causing all kinds of problems for the real modelers

But then again any attention these IDIOTS get is good to some of them

AMA motto; education
Solving for mass and velocity, this equates to an object weighing 250 grams traveling at a terminal velocity of 25 meters/second or approximately 57 miles per hour.
Using these results, it is reasonable to estimate the probability of such a lethal event occurring per sUAS flight hour, by the following approach:
𝑷𝒆𝒆𝒆𝒆𝒆 = 𝑀𝑀𝑀𝑀 −1∗􀵬 𝑆𝑈𝑈𝑈𝑆ℎ􀵰∗ (𝑛 ∗𝑆ℎ𝑆𝑠)∗𝐸𝐸 ∗ 𝑃𝑙

I suppose the pilots who fly the F117 Stealth Fighter and the Stealth Bomber are IDIOTS cause these aircraft's would not fly without the aid of computers, again what is it that YOU heli pilots do with your craft other than fly around some field or 3D of which is cool to see one time then its boring...

Let's see some videos that would say, "Gee I got to have a heli" I have search through Youtube can't find any, I find lots of heli crashes.

Nothing exciting here in this video other than the guy spent a boat load of dollars to do what hit the hoop? To travel from show to show flying in some grass field. I can go down to my nearest hospital and see the real thing take off and land.

I fly for fun currently, but I have applied for my FAA 333 to fly commercially. It is projected that one million UAV's will be under Christmas trees this year. There is more vendors, shops, manufacturing of UAV's then any other RC hobby. The world is exploding in the UAV industry in many uses of the UAV. I will end with a few links of my videos and how I use my UAV. I fly a HEXA UAV with 18 blades, camera mounted on a gimbal, video down link to a 10" display so that I can see where I fly. I have no use for a heli, but I am not going to be so closed minded to say anything negative of heli's. I have been in R/C for 46 years in nearly all phases.
Good for you and we're glad to have you on RR.

The folks that fly the B2 and the Stealth have the same thing in common that anyone the flies a fixed wing or rotor craft has in common; they are parked in it and their orientation never changes on top of the fact that in almost all cases particularly with military pilots they don't build the machine they fly. More to your point, the pilots that you showed in your video had to build those models, figure things out, custom fabricate parts, and make other parts adapt to the application, in short they were modelers and builders.

Do you do much flying with the automation turned of on the M690? One of my friends has one and honestly it's very easy to fly, in GPS mode it flies very much like a Phantom or any other stabilized multi rotor that is using GPS. I do prefer to fly it without the automation turned on and the gear up, it looks neat. Flying models in FPV modes is just about the easiest form of RC, the harder discipline is flying LOS and building the model. Not everyone likes to do that.

Multirotors can be a lot of fun but they will never impart the feedback that one gets from actually flying the model with which a helicopter will. You will never be able to autorotate your multi because it doesn't fly like a true aircraft will. Autorotation may not be of interest to you but at some point in time with a full size or model you will be doing one and Multirotors won't; they will be crashing. Face it, you fly an aerial appliance and if it weren't stabilized and tied into a GPS, would you still fly it? That's not a put down, that just an acknowledgement of the way it is.

Here's a UAV in the backyard, My friend that owns it let me fly it at the 5 minute mark in LOS mode as the FPV equipment wasn't installed yet.

Exactly. Give a rank newbie a gyro equipped quad and heli. See which one they can simply push up on the throttle and achieve a perfectly stabilized hover for 60 sec and then simply pull down on the throttle to safely land it without even touching the right stick. It won't be the heli and I'm not talking about co-ax or fixed pitch toys. A true CP heli capable of aerobatics. It doesn't even have to be a hard core 3D setup. They won't be getting the heli down in one piece. The quad? Sure, that's easy.

That's pretty much the point, AzViper. A quad/MR-only person wouldn't even be able to safely fly it for starters.
