While the topic of drones gone wild has the DOT making everyone including grandma "register their drone", we still have prevalent problems of irresponsible morons flying their model helis, (electric, glow and gassers) in public parks or areas NOT designated for safe RC model flying.

These idiots are the to blame as much as the "droners" for the knee jerk reaction of public agencies in trying to regulate model flying to death.

If you know anyone who keeps flying at public parks with folks circulating around or in the background, please, put some pressure on then to stop the stupidity. Not hard to find them; the same film or post every flight online thinking they are doing some good to the hobby by showing off.

Please help stop this irresponsible behavior.

While I understand what you are trying to say, I grew up flying in parks. The roar of a Fox .35 at the end of a set of 60 foot lines is the defining feature of my youth. We lived across the street from Comstock Park in Spokane, WA. I could recognize the sound of a model engine from 10 miles away. That park and model airplanes has more to do with me being an airline pilot than my college degree.

So again, while I understand what you are trying to say, you won't mind if I consider it opinion?

"Well, Nothing bad can happen now."

San, I don't think that the park flyers are causing these issues in general.

Rather it's the dummies that insist on flying near airports.

And they're oblivious to any kind of common sense.

I have to agree with EEngineer it is more about common sense then anything else . which most seem to have not learned or forgotten how to use .

My AMA club field is with a state park so why should I/we not be flying there ??

I have flown in other parks or school grounds but when people arrive I load up and go home or move to another place, ie common sense ... don't over fly people , buildings, cars ect.

Had the same issue when I/we had nitro rc trucks. I mean fast 40-60 mph rc trucks had to pay attention to what was going on around you and if people showed up to use the park we usually ended up leaving. I understood the danger even when the others who just wanted to watch could not.

while I do understand the OP statement or sentiment not all who fly in parks and other places are bad but there are the few who I agree do make us all look very bad as a whole !

I know it is just my opinion but I saw it from the start that the ease of use the quads/multi/drones have was going to be a threat to my/our hobby. I don't fly them, flew a friends he was surprised how well I could do called me a natural. flies it self .

I tell people get a plane or a heli and try to fly it without help or experience and you will most likely fail due to having to learn rules and responsibility of flying, but that quad/drone is so easy anyone can fly them not requiring learning any of the safety rules or how and where is appropriate to fly them

wife says if i'm going to be an addict at least its to a heli

AMA's fault for leading on
The insurance covers you whether you choose to fly at an AMA club field, park, backyard or wherever.

I hear you guys,
Not referring to small park flyers, but to guys flying 600 and 700 size helicopters in parks, where you see folks and children walking around.

"Is it a full moon?"
It may be

I guess my blood boiled over when I watched yet another YT video of an RR member flying in a park with folks walking in the background, not behind but in front of the pilot. Regardless of anyone wanting to argue the people may be a hundred feet in front, still an unforgivable practice.

Sorry about the rant, I seen and heard too many folks injured or had close calls in my life, and hate those who take chances with others.

so then a Fun Fly is a big no no?

there are ALWAYS people present... unless you fly in a private field by yourself.

so how close was he flying to these people,, was he flying over them or within 250 ft of them?

keep in mind not everybody has access to a nice big AMA field where helis are actually welcomed.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

I have AMA n I fly in parks school fields n soccer fields. But I would have to say its not my fault these parents allow the kiddies run under my heli or plank ?? I would tell my kids wait here till it lands n ask ? S then. Just kidding I fly in fields where I am alone n at a private field. I once tried to fly my trex500 at the state park n did had quite the crowd which I don't like as the pucker factor goes up. Just as I m cleaning packing up good old Smokie show up to tell me u can't fly here n the closest state park is Bensalem or Benjamin rush toward the air port ?? To each their own but lets remember I only recall one heli hitting a innocent bystander/ Walker by getting hit n from what I remember he was taunting then chase ing them around n had a flame out n it auto into a young girl. One one recall in 20 sum years of rc. ??

The point I am making is flying in public areas or parks where you do not have a clear NO CROSS boundary, or control access where an observer could come between you and your model. That drives the higher risk.

I remember when I was learning how to fly and had to travel and hour or more to fly safely. The same when I moved to FL, the closest sanctioned field was 1hr away and even though I would pass many big open areas to fly, I knew better I could not control or secure from observers which always got too close for comfort. I tried, one close call too many.
Again, I am not talking about park flyers.

So you think hate and not concern for others is driving my post...

Sad how folks justify their irresponsible actions.

I am done w this thread
.
