Hello everyone,

I crashed my Century Radikal G20 at the weekend. The tail rotor shaft sheared and the machine went into a fast spin, I panicked and crashed heavily.
Due to the lack of Century parts available here in the U.K., I am intending to purchase an Align 600N complete rotor head, swash plate, etc. I understand that it will fit, but should I purchase the Century LT main-shaft, or HD main-shaft, or will the Align main-shaft fit? (Before the crash it was the HD version of the Radikal) Also, is there a preferred Align replacement for the tail gearbox (belt drive), or will any from the 600N range suffice?

Derek

The difference between the HD shaft and LT shaft is the size of the bolt holes which are 4mm and 3mm. I have the HD as well but mainly purchased the LT shaft due to being a dollar less and just drilled the next size. No clue how they justified a dollar difference for the same part.

I have no clue if anyone has used a 600 trans box. I will verify later today as I have the parts. Hole alignment, width between frames as well as gearing. Will also check shaft differences.

Gearhead is probably busy dealing with scammers.

Some quick checks before heading out to the field to try and burn another half gallon today.

Inside frame width (add two 3mm plates to make up!)
Rad20: 52.5mm
T-600: 46.5mm

Trans bolt holes
Front to Back // Top to Bottom
Rad20: 33.5mm // 33.5mm
T-600: 33.5mm // 30.5

My digital calipers batts are dead so measurement are not precise.

Still have to check gearing.

When and if the time comes, I will go that route.

I have both the HD and LT mainshafts in hand. The HD mainshaft is also longer at the rotor hub end, to fit deeper in the Predator rotor head used on the HD.

the only thing compatable between the T600 and the G20(HD) are the main rotor, swash and tail hub...the rest is a no go.

the main shaft of the T600 is too short on the bottom half, plus the shaft is hardened to around 55rc... you aint drilling that drive pin hole unless you have C6 carbide straight flute bits (cost about $20 each) AND with the old esp shafts they are turned down to 8mm (i think) on the bottom 1.5 inch of the shaft so you would need a bushing to make up for that.

Hello RM,
For the tail rotor gear box, is there a preferred model from Align or will any TRex 600n tail gear box do?

the tail gear box from an align 600 will not work on a G20... the tail boom diameter on the G20 is much bigger.

the only things that can be swapped between the two are the tail rotor hub, swash and main rotor hub...

To clarify, I was referring to using a complete align tail assembly, boom and all. Unfortunately the gear modes do not match. Otherwise, doable.

I have the torque tube version trans so no clue if belt is any different in design, gearing.

Sounds like a project for RM3 Making plates to use an align tail. You just need to find the proper gear to complete the package.

Sorry to hear the news. Seems to be quite a rash of this problem lately and throughout history on the forums with Century. I thought they were out of business heli wise?

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

Although I'm sorry you crashed due to a problem beyond your control, it may be a blessing in disguise !!

This would be a good time to dump the Century junk and get something more reliable .....

Raja

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice. I have enough information to enable me to get the machine flying again. Goodbye, for now.
