Hi all
I started out with nitro 10+ years ago, took a long break and back into helicopters.. long story short I now have a Goblin 380, 700, 770 and a Logo 800.
I am tires of not having batteries charged when I get the chance/time for a quick get a way...by the time the batteries are done I miss my window
I am looking at the align 600 and 700 nitro, for a quick gas and go but also when I do have the time a quality bird to have.
I know this may be a dumb question but will I get a longer flight with the 600?? Or am I better off with the 700 since all my ships are 700 and bigger. I know it sound bad but I don't want to spend a crap load on fuel every year...even though I probably have $2500 in batteries kicking around..
Anyway I am hoping to be a nitro guy soon just trying to figure out whats best for me.. Any input is appreciated and thanks in advance

Hi, the 600 will give you about 10 mins on a tank. I don't have a 700-class engine with a 700 size tank, so cannot comment. I have a 700-class engine with a 600 tank and this is about 7 mins.

You flew nitros, so you're aware that this extra flight time does not come for free. Most likely, over a flying season, the cost of nitro fuel would've bought you a large box of batteries. Then there is keeping the engine and clutch running, etc.

Gasser is the "new nitro". The power of gas engines have increased dramatically. 20 mins on a tank (they'll hate you at the field for that ... ?) . Cost of fuel is next to nothing, compared to nitro, etc, etc.

20 minutes!!! so do you think a conversion would be better???
I have a goblin 700 I could convert but I have not seen anything close to that run time on the chat rooms.
Do you get that much time converting a align 700 to gas??

Hi, I will shortly maiden a Helix G700 - Trex 700n based, so will be able to confirm this (after the lengthy break-in of course).

The T-Rex 600N gets about 6-6:30 minutes of hard 3D flight time when flown at 2150 RPM (The ideal RPM using the majority of .50 class engines available).

The new 700N DFC gets closer to 8-8:30 minutes at ~2050RPM.

However, you'll get 10-11 flights out of a gallon of fuel in the 600N, where as you'll only get about 6 with the 700N.

Your best be to save $$$ on fuel is to buy a several cases at a time, as this almost always works out to be more cost efficient from your dealer.

Why not keep your packs at around 70% charged, they will charge to 95-100% in 5 minutes on a good charger.

6-8 minutes flight time is also possible on an electric heli.

Having said that I do prefer nitro as a grab and go heli. (Providing the RX and starter pack are charged!)

60% of the time, it works every time!

I am not electric,but leaving them at 70% charged I thought was not good for Lipo batteries,the Electric guys at the field never leave them charged other wise they must go into storage mode,its good to know though in case I head in the electric direction.

Storage charge is between 50-60% so I very much doubt 70% would be noticeably detrimental. Some people leave their packs fully charged for days with no ill effects. Infact if you are flying once a week there's not much point in storage charge.
