Hey fellas,

I need some help from the experts here. I have a 600 size MD500 with Trex 600E mechanics. I installed a 5 blade rotor head with 600m main blades. I am running a head speed of 1400. I balanced the heli off the main shaft and checked it while holding the heli horizontally. On flight the heli, seems to be out of balance as if I need trim either front or back but it will not stay level. I am using a 2 axis gyro. Do I need a fbl controller on a 5 blade rotor head?

any suggestions are appreciated.

thanks in advance.

Jz.

Here is a video of the flight. I am constantly fighting right stick to maintain hover. I apologize for the bad video but it was the best I could do by myself.

thanks

Jz as you have proven you can fly the 5 blade head without a FBL controller/stabilization. However, it's a heck of a lot easier to fly it with one. From the video it looks like it was pretty windy which you were fighting as well. You will really be fighting it when you get into forward flight as well.

Are you familiar with any of the FBL controllers? I use the Skookum 720 on my scale helis but other scale flyers use V-bar, BeastX , as well as others. If your familiar with one let us know and I'm sure someone can help you with the set up. A system that lets you phase the head electronically will make life easier as well.

Thumper,

Thank you for your reply. On that flight, winds were not too bad. I am used to flying in high winds living here near the coast. I am familiar with FBL controllers and I do have several helis with Beast X / AR7200's. I will add a FBL controller and go that route.

Thank you again!

Flying multi heads without FBL is a challenge. I flew my 600 size MD500 with a 5 blade head and just a GY401 on the rudder. The most important part of the setup is to ensure the swashplate is level. Any slight tilt in this will cause the model to drift. The other consideration are your cyclic servos. When testing my mechanics, I used Futaba S3152 digitals @ 4.8V. On a conventional 2 blade head, they were fine, but once, with a 5 blade head running 530mm CF blades, the model was spooling up and the head oscillated in a wind gust. I changed the cyclic servos to Align 610s (12Kg) and used a 6V pack.
