Is there something wrong with everyone benefiting from flying? The more the merrier.
So what if the guy on TV crashed... he was turning around to fly nose in... it takes some practice, he did not have.
Nothing...You're making my greater point though, before he got on national tv he should have checked himself out and since he may have been flying outside where the machine can get the requisite number of Sats locked in. This will give you a false sense of security vis a vis GPS, atti and manual mode when flying. IOW, no GPS mode indoors. Stabilized multirotors strike again. The bottom line is pretty much what revmix said.

What happens to the industry, AMA and us as modelers when a catastrophe strikes? What does that lawsuit look like, how does it break down for the industry?

At this point I am all for whatever they decide to do to us. We had our chance to clean up our collective act and we didn't. Not as consumers, not as sellers.

That's a good point MartyH. Now we're at the mercy of knotheads that are going to define what our modeling environment is going to look like going forward because of companies like DJI that have up opened up the floodgates. Aerial appliances have set the stage.

I respectfully disagree.

I am quite astonished that with well over 150,000 registered AMA pilots, less than 1,000 pilots actually voiced their opinions over the FAA regulations in 2013. Additionally, at this time, out of all the AMA pilots, there are only six rebuttal comments to the FAA newly introduced registering of aircrafts.

Frankly, it isn't the knotheads that have defined what our modeling environment is.

The modeler has.

Stephen,

The "knotheads" that I refer to aren't the modelers and you're right if only 1,000 folks commented the last time that is pathetic but it was my understanding that there were 4,000 responses which is still low. IMHO, the modeler doesn't have a chance in this situation, it's all being driven by the manufacturers of stabilized rotorcraft. They pump this stuff out here to the market, folks buy it and the airspace becomes less controlled. When you look at the number of machines sold versus AMA members it's clear that the AMA members could be at the mercy of someone else.

obviously modelaircraft.org is not up to the task to handle the situation

No doubt.

According to the AMA site, they have over 50,000 youth members out of 180,000 total membership and that leaves >130,000 adult members to lobby on behalf of modeling in general if you could get 130,000 members to respond. How do our numbers relate to over a million aerial appliances sold? It's like a Mom and Pop hamburger stand going up against McDonalds.

calm down...
other r/c-hobby.orgs will pop up & mostly 'drone' related, the very reason AMA acted up not to lose the non-profit bu$ine$$ crowd

Well here's a solution, For anyone SELLING drones they must have a Federal Registration Number to allow them to sell the drones. Does this sound familiar ? So with that being said why don't we take this all the way and start background checks on anyone who wishes to purchase a drone. Doing this will follow suite to Terry's thought keep the prices going up. I like it

I like it. If folks want to buy this stuff make them pay the price. It shouldn't be on the modelers that just want to fly and be left alone.

faa.gov had not bothered with the hobby 336 from 2012 to 2014 until r/c activity was by the nationwide community based S.C.
