Amazing bit of work there. It’s gonna be nice to see the first one pop out of the molds.

UIH!!!,

Thanks guys.

This has been a ton of work but watching it come together has been really cool.

I am ready to do the LH main fuse mold lay up. This is a pretty complex lay up so lets hope it all goes well. The plan is to do this tomorrow.

Pics of the process for making and installing the parting boards and cutting the glass cloth

Thanks Gents,

It has been a ton of work doing each mold half lay-up. The fuse side being the biggest yet.

Each mold is 7 layers of cloth. With a pot life of about 20 minutes or so, I go through a lot of mixing cups, 1 and 2" brushes and nitrial gloves to complete each mold half.

The area around the sponson was a little tough. The flange is close to the fuse making it difficult to get the cloth place properly. The main structural ribs will come through this area to support the main landing gear and the spar for the stub wings. They will also support the mechanics so doing it this was should make a pretty strong fuse.

There will be attachment return flanges on the fuse side as well as the sponson its self to help support the stub wings. The sponsons and stub wings will be removable for access and transport because the wing span is about 32 inches.

Once the RH fuse side is complete I will move to the upper cowlings.

We are getting closer each day.

UIH,

B

Nice work Butch! It always amazes my how neat and tidy your work area is even in the middle of such an in depth project. I wish I had the discipline to stay as organized as you not to mention the talent!

Pictures and descriptions are awesome, Thanks for sharing.

I have been in so much awe that I didn’t notice the very clean shop but, when laying up glass, you need to be tidy or things get ugly quick. Keep up the good work.

Ron

I didn't crash. I just ran out of airspeed, altitude, and ideas all at the same time!

UIH,

Thanks so much guys,

Clean as you go. Something I have learned after working on full scale helicopters for 40 years.

You are correct Ron, when laying glass things can get out of hand real fast that's for sure.

I am ready to lay up the RH side tomorrow.

Thanks Guys,

Got side B unwrapped this morning. Next the the upper cowls. I will drill the flange holes while both sides are still securely attached to the masted.
I may part the side from the master to check them before moving forward.
