I think tax breaks for married couples were intended to help relieve burdens on families.
Bingo....

The reason for gay marriages, rather than civil "unions", is for tax purposes.

You heard of the lesbian couple(one was very wealthy, the other was not)...was on the news.

The wealthy one died, and the other one was expecting to be left the wealthy one's estate.

The IRS ruled that since they weren't married, that the "estate tax" was due in full at the time of the wealthy one's death....rather than be deferred until after the demise of them both.

The non-prosperous one didn't get much of an inheritance, as a result, and was really PO'd.

Not so.

They could have given the same benefits, both tax and otherwise to civil unions.

That would last the definition of marriage as between a man and woman intact.

I said it before but it bears repeating.

Whether marriage is a religious institution or not, government has no place in it.

If religious - it's protected under First Amendment. So government butts out. If the "New Age Church of Celestial Bodies" wants to have a gay marriage ceremony, government can't touch that.

But if it's not religious. Then what is a marriage? It is a contractual arrangement between consenting people. Period. In which case, the government should butt out as well. Who are they to say who can and cannot draw up a contract?

Now before you get on me, the issue lies in this:

If the government has no place in the institution of marriage, be it religious or contractual, then why are there tax breaks for married couples?

If it's a religious institution, government offering a tax break would be establishment. So that ain't it.

If it's a contractual arrangement, well, that makes even less sense. So you're saying your tax burden to society is decreased by the fact that you entered into a binding contract with another person?

BS. Whatever financial matters should be between the parties involved. I can tell you as a single guy, paying a higher relative tax burden so that two dudes can go at each other's stenchhole makes ZERO sense.

Get government out of the institution of marriage. No tax breaks. Period. It's unfair to all single, widowed, or divorced people to have to bear this burden. You can try to explain it away in antique terms of social usefulness of the institution of marriage, but in the modern era, no such argument exists. GTFO out of marriage.

So the government is offering a tax break to enter contractual arrangements.

And no one sees an issue with this?

Separation of powers?

Nah.

Sad. Like I said. Say goodbye to the Republic.

No rule of law. No one cares. It's circling the drain.

Just for whatever its worth.

SCOTUS final decisions are not always final.

Remember way back when SCOTUS ruled that the black man only be counted as 3/5 of a citizen. Not a full citizen like us whiteys.

That decision was over ruled along with many others throughout history.

Don't hold your breath for it though.

BTW: I noticed on Fox News that the entire White House in Washington, D.C. Has been lit up with rainbow colors celebrating that it is now legal toget dingle berries all over yourself as much as you want.

Liberty once lost, is lost forever.

I am continuing to bow my head in disgrace and shock that they actually made this decision.

I am beside myself in disbelief that the SCOTUS, supposedly the most experienced and NON POLITICAL Court in our land, took political sides on this.

It is time to get rid of it. Over 55% of the country does not want or desire Obamacare...but they upheld it. What does that tell you? Anytime a Politician or Court goes against the majority of the RIGHTFUL population, they are wrong and it is time for a change. Rightful meaning those that are LEGALLY HERE AND OF COURSE US CITIZENS.

This country is conservative in nature. It was founded on Christianity, and still is. No, you wouldn't believe it by listening to the nightly news, the never-ending Hollywood and libtard 'news' stations constantly telling us different.

I cannot believe the over 50% of Americans are OK with same sex marriage.

As I have said in the past....their is a line that is not meant to be crossed...and we as a country have crossed that line.

Too bad for us as a country. It was a nice, short run.

There is no getting around it. Our country has changed. We either accept it or fight against it.

Unfortunately, I can.

Over 50% of "Americans" pay absolutely no fed. income tax.

In addition, of that over 50% percentile, a great percentage receive govt. subsidies....

And.......they are allowed to vote in federal elections....and they damn well vote(if they do) to put that on our backs....and they proudly do so at times...publically.

The rest of us are forced to "pick up the slack"....because the politicians need to be re-elected...to use their influence to "enrich" their bank accounts.

It's not the banks...it's the politicians who make this happen.

Think about it....now...less than 50% pay tax to "keep things running"...which results in those that actually pay...have to pay for another person.

And you can't claim this person as a "dependent".

The libs insist on "means tests" on the income of those that pay income tax.

I say the libs should be likewise "means tested"....if they're sucking from the taxpayer's "udder", they shouldn't be allowed to vote for fed elections.

In order to rub this ruling in America's face, Obama had the White House changed to the Rainbow House:
