And model select on power up. I like this just because it gives me a sanity check before I select the model I want to fly.
Indeed. I LOVE the Model Select feature on power up on my 14SG. Hope they add that feature soon via an update!

Odd question: Why does the throttle stick not align to the very bottom and very top marks. Its a smaller movement then 14sg (14sg does align). I search around videos for 18MZ and its the same issue. I assuming you can adjust this.

This is a special feature of Futaba top end radios - 9V, 9Z, 12Z, 14MZ, 18MZ - for the last 25 years or so. May have started on the contest radios in the 70's - Ben ?

If you take the back off the TX, VOIDING THE WARRANTY OF COURSE, you can remove the two small stick stops and re-calibrate the throttle stick - p.61 in the manual.

OR you could fly it like it is !

The vast majority of 3D pilots have expressed a preference for the shorter travel collective stick so they can execute quick direction changes with less overall movement. There was a good deal of bitching that occurred from guys moving from the 12Z and 14MZ to the 8FG and 14SG over this issue because the added travel screwed up their timing. If you would prefer the full stick resolution without having to pull the rear off the radio, I'm sure Hobby Services would do it for peanuts.

Guys thank you for the response. I don't mind it just found to be odd, i got use to it quick. I love the radio, but would like some minor features to see add in firmware updates.

1) Auto lock.
2) Layout manger on Telemetry screen like on 14sg.
3) More curve options beside exp1 exp2 and point.
4) Keyboard. There is no reason not use standard keyboard layout with a shift key. Have the keyboard change base on your language selected.
5) Model name length, In the selection menu there so much unused real space but in edit mode there is a limit.

Polite, constructive feedback like this is noticed by Hobbico and Japan. We'll see what comes along in future firmware updates.

Just got mine today and it looks great. The sticks are silky smooth and top notch. I haven't dug too far into it yet but it looks pretty much the same programming as the 8FG i have been flying. maybe a little more capable. I fly helicopters and Hand launch gliders so the 3 extra flight conditions, It has a total of eight, will come in handy for the gliders. I am sure it will hold some surprises yet to be discovered.
It will be fun finding out and exploring.

How's the buzzer? Is it louder than the 8FG and 14SG?

The FCC online manual has this screen:

[Model data conversion method]
1. Attach a SD card that contains model data
of T12FG or FX-30 to the SD slot of a T18SZ.

This manual section / screen is not present in the 18SZ online english manual. This screen was available on the Robbe FX32 (the source of the 18SZ s/w) but has now disappeared.

So looks like you have to manually enter all new models.

mine will be here tomorrow. I went from the 14sg to the 18mz. loved both but ones lacking and ones over the top. I love the feel and weight of the 14sg. the bulkiness of the 18mz and price isn't for me. so I cant wait to have this radio. it seems to be the 14sg I loved with the touch screen I really need to be able to easily figure out how to program futaba radios. ive had everything else and futaba never let me down.

18SZ Just Unboxed
I have been a futaba man all my life, but have tried to write a small and unbiased view. Just opened box.

Have just bought an 18SZ today, this has been the radio i have been waiting for, although i was quite happy with my FX-22/14SG and was not in a rush but my LHS just happened to have it in stock and all of £2.50 Cheaper than anywhere else

So far the Jury is out, don't get me wrong it is a very good looking radio, the buttons actuate well, definite clicks, side levers are solid with a good ratchet. Trims good as well i cant really fault the hardware on that side.

The gimbals. They feel a little cheap and plasticky to me, they center well but something just does not feel right. For £900 Uk i was expecting a better feel, but maybe i'm wrong.

TouchScreen this is why i bought it, very pleased, works really well, instant no delay, all the functionality i could want, although a qwerty keyboard would have been nice rather than flicking through pages. I've yet to go through a helicopter setup as i'm still at work, but will add a little more to this if anyone wants to hear.

valve boy!

Love my new 18SZ
I love my Futaba 14MZ but really love this new touch screen 18SZ that is so easy to program. I like the feel of the radio in my hands even a little bit better than my 14MZ. I like the touch screen over the select a wheel on the 14MZ also. I am switching my models over manually onto the 18SZ and can't wait to go fly.

Mookie...

I think the sticks feel very smooth. They are the same as their $3000.00 18MZ. I have a friend who has the 18mz and we opened the radios and the gimbals appear to be the same as Futaba said. Maybe you just need to adjust them to your feel.

I'm loving everything about the radio except for the throttle curve range. I really like being able to have custom menus for each model.

They'll fix the throttle curve in due time. The gimbal assemblies are the same as the 18MZ's.

Hi all,

I have been requested to put a report together covering any known software issues or glitches and software requests for the 18MZ & 18SZ.

So if any of you can email me any problems that you have found, then it will added to the report for discussion in Japan in mid November.

I would need this info by mid next week at the latest if possible.

Email to ...

Cheers

Model select screen on start up

More model name character spaces

Model name on home screen in place of second timer

Battery icon isn't calibrated to read correct percentages

When in English, have the Japanese symbols disappear from the model name build screen

The model name is on the home screen above the 2nd timer. You can access the model select screen directly from the home menu. It would be nice though for safety of both the model and others if you had to select the model when it turned on.
It would be nice to not have the Japanese on the English screen.
I think the sticks are very nice.
So far I have not actually flown it due to weather and other commitments but I do like the navigation ease.
It was pretty easy to program it based on the info from my 8FG.
Only had one issue regarding mixing elevator to flap in butterfly on a glider model. If you have experience on the 8FG it will be pretty easy.

I would like to add 3 more features to wish list:

1) curve offset: currently you only can offset the y axis. please add off set for x too. Also if possible to have a exp value higher then 100.

2) Delete option currently can be very dangers. You have both green and blue row highlights can get confusing (green is current model, select model for action is blue) . And upon confirming deleting a model display the model name which will be delete. I have delete few models i did not want because confusion , no meaningfully msg on confirmation and automatic going to the top list after deleting. It should just go back to current, so you could not chain delete. I know it sounds stupid, but i did few times where i delete more models then i wanted to. first few times I did not have a back up LOL.

3)Creating new models have a selection off model type and mode. New always just copies your current model type and mode.
