As best I can tell, the fundamental stick mechanics support center neutral but as delivered the heli radio is not user convertible from parts in the box, so to speak.

Cool. I wonder if Futaba will make that as optional ad-don for heli versions. Thanks

Back in the day when I tried spring centered collective on my JR 10X I called Horizon and ordered the parts to convert it to a mode 1 radio. All it required was a two springs and two plastic levers. It only took a few minutes to install. Perhaps something similar is all that's required for the 18sz as well.

I doubt there is more involved here based on what I have seen on the gimbal mechanics.

I think the plastic friction and ratchet pieces probably need replacing with the centering pieces and spring. But not a big deal since it has calibration. Does the 18SZ come with throttle limiters ?

Dr Ben,
can you comment anything about the 2 new sensors coming out.
like
SBS-01RB Brushless Motor RPM Sensor
and
SBS-01S (page 109 of the manual)

I'm very interested current sensor for servos. Like to know if you can set an action base on current level (overload) . Like shut off a servo etc.

The rpm sensor is a rather straightforward affair that uplinks electric motor rpm info to a FASSTest transmitter. Rpm info shows on the trans screen. It taps into any two of the three motor wires. I tested one, and it worked fine.

I don't have the preliminary docs on the servo current sensor but I don't recall an option to shut a servo down. There is more useability to the sensor than simply monitoring current as you can set thresholds for alarm as I recall and so forth. It works only with SBus2 servos, and I do remember reading that it cannot be used with a servo in a gyro system, which pretty much precludes its use in many heli applications. The reason for this is that gyro servos are running through what is effectively a PWM converter with SBus in, PWM out. There is no way for servo SBus2 data to get back to the telemetry receiver from the servos via the gyro.

Hint Hint we need an Sbus2 replacement for cgy750 =) (with full configuration access thru the 18sz and pc) . Also I wish Futaba would partner up with a major ESC manufactures like CC,Kontronik and release a SBUS2 ESC. Then you can get some great telemetry data or even a configuration interface thru the radio. Anyways thanks for the update.

Although telemetry only, KONTRONIK recently released the TelMe for Futaba and the JLog has been around quite some time.

From a systems architecture perspective, a centralized gateway such as the JLog is an ideal solution.

+1

A built-in receiver would be nice, too.

Dream a little dream. Also like to add one more thing. A developer SDK the possibilities would be endless. Dr Ben do you know what OS is under the hood. Is it still windows CE ? Also does the 18sz have 2 cpu like the 18mz (1 is for GUI and the other for radio functions) .

It would be nice to see some things like people are suggesting. Not sure if Futaba would spend the money for research and development of those items. From what I have been told the RC Hobby side of Futaba is kind of a side business. Most of their business is commercial and industrial. Just like the huge cement pumper trucks here where they are building new homes use a wireless controller for the operator to operate away from his vehicle and they are Futaba.

Single processor as with the 12's and the 14SG. No outsourced user interface OS.

The 18SZ will import 12FG models. So if you can get your models to 12FG format you are in.

Mine arrived yesterday, very nice.
I am however disappointed that the throttle curve has a scale from -100 to +100 with 0 in the middle.
All other radio's including my 18MZ are from 0 to 100.

Hopefully it will get corrected in the first update.
