Just a fun topic here..

What was your first helicopter and what year did you start flying?

I have a few pics of my original Schluter Junior 50 that I started to fly back in 1991. I had been flying R/C airplanes since 1975 but was looking for a new challenge. Helicopters have really changed since back in the day; electronics; blade construction;electric helicopters; reliability; flyablity, to name a few.. It sure has been a fun time.

Hope you enjoy my old pics!

As you can see in this picture, I flew until it became very dark.. the exhaust smoke was pretty thick and my Dad told me I couldn't use his backyard again because the neighbors would complain...

Got my first one as a hand-me-down but don't remember the year I tried it (didn't last long before the tail wire snapped and I put it up). Bought a Trex 450 years later and have been hooked ever since

I started with a Horizon 60 in about 1982 with a Kraft AM radio. I never succeeded at getting it flying for more than a few seconds. I tried flying helis 28 years later and here I am 6 years later.

I had one of those too, It was a fun helicopter. Lots of fun with that thing. It was one of my favorites. I still have some nip spare parts for it kicking around as well.

My first heli was a Kyosho Concept with an OS.46, I didn`t have a clue what I was getting into back then when I first started either.

Oh this brings back memories my first heli was Schluter Junior 50 as well our club used to fly on an active RAF base and we had to stop using it because of the first Gulf war so I stopped flying and didn't get back to it for years

My first heli was two junk shuttles i got at a swap meet, for $150, i tried to fly one and crashed it.. Tip over.. Sold them...
Then i went to the origional mta, and got a new concept sr, jr 388, and the aerochopper simulator.... He trimmed the concept for me..
The fun days, loops without idel up. No flying backwards with mecanical gyros.. And trying to auto woodies...
When the raptor 50 came out i sold my two concept helis, and parts for $80

In 1986, a Kalt Baron 20 with an OS.28, heliball muffler, guided by a Futaba 7fgk airplane radio and no gyro. The real challenge was getting the throttle to pitch ratio correct by drilling holes in a single large servo wheel! A year later, I switched to a JR Century 7 heli radio that made setup sooooooo much easier, and added a Kraft mechanical tail gyro which made flying much more enjoyable.

My first helicopter was a Century Hawk first version. It was used when I purchased and is was well broke in.

It was so well broke in I'd almost say it had built in expo.

Very shortly after purchasing the Hawk they released the Raptor and I picked up a Raptor 30 and then upgraded it to a 50.

I also picked up a used Ergo 30 which I also upgraded to the 50. This ended up be my favorite. Very smooth and stable.

Hirobo Sceadu 50 was my first heli that I purchased. It had all Futaba servos(that came with the radio), a 401 gyro, an OS 50, Hirobo muffler. All controlled with a 9c. Great little beginner heli.
