Can anyone discribe how they start a gasser? Foot on one of the skids, one hand on top of the main shaft?

It appears to me, since I am in the midst of building my first gasser, that it takes a good deal of hard pulling to start one of these things. I am also curious how this would be accomplished if the bird was inside a scale fuse?

Is there a prescribed way to do this? Anyone got a vid of starting?

starting

john:

from my experience, the foot is not necessary. holding the head is something you should always do with a heli. the amount of force necessary to start the engine is usually not so great that the foot is needed.

if you want to be safe, the foot is insurance.

just do it!

scale fuse starting

I put a start cone on the start shaft that sticks out the top and have started mine with my twelve volt starter,it fired right up.

Starting Gasser

Bergen 'pinned' the start shaft (the recommend this for electric start) for my G26, and I start it with a dynatron on a pickup truck battery. Starts easily, and no pulling. Great for me, I've got serious back problems which prevent the 'pulling' thing.

Also, you can loose the weight of the pull starter.

I would have the shaft pinned before I assemble it, they've been know to turn. Good luck

A foot on the skid and a hand on the head works just fine.

Life's a journey, NOT a destination.
