I've been flying a 450 pro for a number of years now and the bane of its existence are the darn front TT gears!

I hope I'm not alone in wishing for a more affordable alternative to having to shell out $13 for a pair of gears when I could simply pop the stripped pickup gear and/or bevel gear if anyone happens to know a quality source for them?

I've kept a pretty large stack of the (damaged) gear sets in hopes that someday I'd be able to replace just the one gear. I found some on Ebay, but after judging the poor quality of the Tarot gear box and getting a bunch of useless, incorrect sized gears from OOModels, I'm not in a very experimental mood anymore. I don't mind paying for higher quality stuff, but I wish Align would give us the option of swapping just the lower gear since probably 99 out of 100 of my tail strips end up taking out just the pickup gear. Seems to reason they shouldn't be more than a few cents apiece to produce and since you wouldn't need to replace the shaft every time then it's less stuff you're throwing away.

Here's a link to the ones I found. As far as I can tell the tooth count is correct (26t) but no telling if the diameter is the same: http://m.ebay.com/itm/281481480112

I'm interested too!

It does seem like a waste.

Align is leaving money on the table by not making the front TT gears metal so the rear ones go first. The black plastic is step in the right direction but replacing the front TT gears is a major pita.

The black TT itself was supposed to break first but in practice, it seldom works that way. I'm on the third crash on the same TT. I run a carbon boom so the TT doesn't get too many chances to get out of shape.

I'm thinking out loud here but I would like to see first bevel gear/pickup gear metal, followed by the bevel gears on the TT as they are (black plastic), and lastly the t/r shaft bevel gear with around 60% of the existing tooth face width

Well, I can't really agree on metal gears. But I don't doubt that the current set could use a simpler swap method. The Tarot metal boom block had a good idea but fails to deliver IMHO. I did the tail lift mod so I rarely strip gears anymore, but when I do it grates on me with the price of the gears.

As crazy as it might it might seem, I'd rather take the block out over swapping the tail shaft, but I can see how it might be a simpler process once you got used to it. A gear swap takes me all of about 6 minutes so the time doesn't bother me much anymore.

Well, I went ahead and ordered 6 sets of the gears I posted earlier. Got a reply from the seller saying they were compatible with the Pro so I guess I'll get to see in about a month when they get here (hopefully their estimate is a little off on that though).

I got the gears in from China already! Looks like they'll be a perfect fit, in case anyone was interested. I'm not too sure how well they'll hold up but as cheap as they are who cares!

The worst part is pulling the old, dead gears off the shaft and then pressing on the new one. Chances are without a small gear puller and a C-clamp you're probably going to have a bear of a time replacing the gears (especially the top bevel gear!) But I hope I can find some good tools to display how it all works.

Fwiw, I chuck the end of an old torque tube in a drill and run some 600 grit sandpaper over the bevel gear where the bearings go. As is, even the stock gear can be a real bear to remove the bearings. Good luck with those gears.
