i cant believe they will allow them on passenger jets in carry on luggage and in the wings where they hold aviation fuel. but now talking about banning lipo shipments on commercial flight cant they just install a fire box or containment area for lipo packages ?

I am not aware of any actual fires caused by these shipments. I know they have had fires from li-po batteries used to power the actual aircraft. They have had fires from transporting airline oxygen generators. Both of which are still in use.

There was a restriction on the oxygen canisters in place at the time the Value Jet aircraft had the accident. The canisters were approved to be shipped empty only, but the ones that caused the accident were labeled and loaded incorrectly.

The problem with lipos as well as with the O2 canisters is that once the fire gets started, aircraft systems are not capable of extinguishing the flames.

I agree that this doesn't bode well for the hobby, but some things are realistically not safe to transport on aircraft in bulk.

Seem to me that the fires are showing the aircraft extinguisher systems aren't up to today's tasks ?? They need to have a ejection system or wouldn't the lack of cabin air extinguish the fire ? Or let ship lipos in a fire proof container ?? So only damage is the shipment

And yes two fires on ups flights that I know of, don't know the flight numbers and isn't this why to started using the extra connection to break a 6s into two 3 s ??
