i made my own version of the slipper assembly using a 10mm main shaft lock collar i had from my old raptor and a car body wiring gromet which i had cut the top half of down to stop the binding which lmkjma is talking about, it's worked very nicely from the first moment i put it on there, also it was very cheap, even if you didn't have a spare main shaft lock collar they're only about £4 and the wiring gromets came in a pack of 2 for 79p, also i removed the top e clip from the auto bearing as century's design slipper clutch assembly does, only thing needed then is a tiny bit of grease and voila

Very good advise from these gentlemen!

Let me add one thing too.

The one thing about the slipper that I DON'T like for autos is that it drives the ENTIRE geartrain. For a heli with a counter gear system that is alot of extra fat to push around. Remember, you not only have the maingear driving the tail rotor pinion but also the countergear system.

Having used both the slipper and constant drive I can honestly say that the constant drive upgrade is definetly well worth the $$$ IF and I say IF you are experienced with autos and can tell the difference. If not it's no biggie. But, with the slipper you can get the tail to stall no matter how tight whereas the constant drive is guaranteed to turn that tail.

I can do 180degree autos on my Raven 30 CCPM without a driven tail. So, to me I'm not sure what benefit the slipper really is. So if tail control is your objective why not just go all out and get the constant drive?

Fritz,

Now here's my two cents worth! I say you don't need either one until you are to the point of wanting to do aerobatics while doing autos. There simply is no other reason for a driven tail. ( I know I will get lots of screams of protest on this one - Where is that flame suit?) I've been doing autos for eighteen years and just recently installed the driven tail option, and I still see no real reason for it. Yes, 180 degree autos can be done without a driven tail. I did 180 degree auto with a Shluter Champion fifteen years ago without a driven tail.

If I were flying a Hawk, or any other 30 size heli, I especially would not have a driven tail because of the energy it consumes from the main rotor system, and that is because of the small rotor disk and lift to weight ratio.

The government cannot give you anything without first taking it from someone else.

labby,,, yes it goes on the top of the main gear,,, remove the top snap ring, thin washer under the thicker washer, grease the O-ring,,, when you tighten the set screws have enough down pressure on the clutch to just turns the main gear, once your head speed is up to it's flying speed your clutch will work OK,, I have in the past adjusted my slipper clutch from loose to tight and I did not find much of a difference in it's performance...

Payton,

Sorry to hear about the Raven. Those aerobatic autos are tuff. Maybe you can teach me how to do those....let's use your heli!
