Hi,

Would the hitec xtals work with futaba 6EXA computer tx? because I was thinking of buying the hitec dual conversion 8ch rx (I think its called supreme 8?) as it is a reasonablely priced d/c rx and I dont know whether futaba xtal will be compatible with the hitec rx

Thanks

Don't know about the UK, but here in the states, Futaba and HiTec FM receiver crystals are interchangable. The manufacturers say not to do it, but I know of many people who do and have no problems having run them for years. YMMV

For the cost of a xtal, why on earth take the chance. If it goes in, the manufactureres will never cover it under warrenty, so why bother ?

I would be interested in the answer to the more general question about what crystals are interchangeable at all. I mean, considering moving crystals between units of same make and between different makes on one hand and units using PPM and PCM on the other. I have been told, but don't know for a fact, that Futaba transmitter crystals are the same for both PPM and PCM transmitters but receiver crystals differ between PPM and PCM. Is this true? How about other makes?

Actually I strongly think that Futaba transmitter crystals are the same regardless of PPM or PCM modulation as I do have both at PPM and a PCM receiver on the same frequency that I use together with my Futaba 9CHP (not at the same time mind you ). So that part seems correct. How about the rest?

DavidH,

Thank you for your answer.

I was told, regarding Futaba, that only PCM receivers were dual conversion and therefore uses different crystals than PPM receivers. But if both kinds are dual conversion I do understand that they should work using the same kind of crystals. What about receivers that are not dual conversion? Or are all Futaba receivers dual conversion?

Personally I have an old Futaba R116FB receiver and a newer R149DP so I really only need to know if those are the same in this respect. Looking at a few web pages about Futaba receivers leads me to think that maybe the D in the receiver model signifies a dual conversion type (i.e. R149DP) could this be the case? If so a R116FB would be something else (single conversion maybe, I don't know the correct English term so I am guessing here)? Using a different kind of crystal?

hi again,

since I might be getting the hitec supreme 8 ch rx for my futaba 6EXA, is it possible to use a futaba xtal for the tx and hitec xtal for the rx? would the rx and tx communicate?

thanks

David,

Thanks!

j_js1,

Sorry for, kind of, hi-jacking "your" thread.
