Even the tool from Rick's puts a load on the rod and rod bearing that is unacceptable to me. I agree that it's much better than any method that blocks the piston, but the toothbrush in the intake, blocking the crank, is the best in my not so humble opinion. The TT cranks tend to be pretty sharp and my toothbrush gets shortened once in a while. Fritz's the Cat's tool would work well to hold the fan, but I found it quicker to make a flex clamp out of alum.

I just bought the ricks tool, it is perfect it does not put stress on con rod. it puts all stress on the crankshaft pin. For $15 why use a toothbrush.
