I'll be spending some time in Bonita Springs after Christmas and was wondering if there were any flying fields (for helis of-course) in the area? And if there is wireless internet available in the area that I could use with my laptop to stay in touch with work while I'm away.

If anyone has any info please drop me a line at:
dlustig@effclay-fs.com

Thanks

bigwave,,

Sure is!! I live in Bonita. There are a few of us who fly (ok, they fly, I crash) down in North Naples on Sunday mornings. We fly at Pine Ridge elementary school. Its nice and relaxed. Everyone is safety minded and there are no plankers. There are a few local fields, but they are mostly dominated by plankers from what I hear.

How long will you be down?

COOL

Myself and my family are looking at coming down either the 26th or 27th of Dec then staying until the 4th or 5th of Jan. We have to get back to Illinois before school starts back up.
Our family has a condo on the beach just off of Bonita Beach Rd about a mile South of Doc's beach house, if you know where that's at.
I don't know if we'll have room for a heli in the van I may try if I have a place to fly. I'm a low key "Sunday" flyer myself and the only heli flier in my area so I've never flown with other heli folks.

If you know where it's at how far are you from Doc's?

If you want to see a bunch o helis try Markham Park. About 1 1/2 hours from Bonita, east on I75/Alligator alley. Not unusual to see 30 to 40 helis on the weekend.

Gotta bring the heli!!!!! Take off tail boom and blades to avoid damage and save room! Bonita Beach road turns East past Docs so either the condo is north or it is not on the beach, unless its in Lely Barefoot Beach.

The other guys usually get out there around 7:30 and I usually get there about 8. I have a little further drive (and I'm not a morning person).

I'm one of the "other" guys and Unfortunately will be away between Christmas and New years but will be there the Sun after New years day (4th). If you take Bonita to 41, then South to Pin Ridge, then East just past Goodlett (bunch of construction right there) the next flashing yellow light a no name road (which is the entrance to Pin Ridge middle school) Turn in (left turn) Follow the road around back (to the right) and there we are. We fly from 7:30 till 11 or so.

Jagboy69,

Where did you go to school? I see you are just a little older than me. I graduated from Estero High.

Yes it's on Lely Barefoot Beach

Yep, we are down on the beach (Lely Beach Blvd) if you walk the beach were about one mile South of Docs or about two miles North of Wiggins Pass.

Wow, those places are nice. Why not just buy a heli for the condo? You could leave it here and use when you are down?

That'd be nice

A heli for the condo that's a nice thought but, unfortunatly we do not get down enough to justify such a purchase. Since I now have two children in school the only time we can come down is over the summer or during school breaks. And the condo is used by the whole family, I could just see it now one of my in-laws or nephewes decide to try and fly my RC heli, I mean how hard could it be? Then they actually get the thing started, well, you see where I'm going, bad carma!!
I mean this is the same group of people who purchased a 2-channel rc boat that sat in a closet for five years because no one could get it to work. When my oldest son saw it on the shelf last summer he asked if we could run it. After about 30min of undoing everything that was done on it (engine mount backwards, speed control all screewed up, etc) he played with it a few times.

I'll have to see how much room we have, I may try to bring my Caliber 30. I'll just bring bare minimum and if I have a problem just put-r-away.

Are there any good heli shops in the area, or any good hobby shops of anytype?

Doug,

You beat me to the punch!!! That was going to be my next sugestion after I convinced him he must have a FL Heli. haha

Bigwave,

We have only 1 hobby shop locally in the area that carries heli stuff. Its in Ft. Myers. Jeff, the owner, there is great and does a good job. They carry mostly raptor stuff. Heli stuff is probably only about 5% of their business. They have R/C cars, airplanes and model trains and lots of other hobby stuff.

Oh ya

I guess I over looked your "Or leave it with one of us to take care of" statement. You guys wouldn't like my heli's they don't do anything too exciting. Nice of you to offer though!!

Jagboy69,

I graduated in '93, and I have a hard time remembering what I ate for lunch today. My wife may remember though, I will check with her. She graduated in '92.

I really dont stay in touch with many of my classmates. I guess that's everyones story though. We probably know a few people in common.

Come fly next time you are down!

I'm going to try!!

Thanks so much for the info, I see that SENECA put a map in one post. Can you guys tell me the physical addresses? I'll have my laptop along with MS Mappoint on it, if I have an address I can puch-r-in and follow the yellow-brick-road.
It looks like we'll be there from the 27th until around the 4th. If nothing else may-be me and my boys can come watch you pros fly. Does anyone fly through the week? The weekends will be pretty tough on me.

Thanks again.
