I thought I would start a new post since I had it off a MP2 posting.

The space between the header and pipe is around 1/4". Please some feedback on the mounting. It is mounted on a X-Cell with Bergen G-10 frames. I haven't started it yet and I had a Hatori hooked up to it. What will be my needle settings at sea level? Thanks

I had them same set up. you better soft mount the pipe to the frame or you will keep breaking the strap around the pipe. My needles were 1 3/4 on the main and 1/4 out on the mid,and about 2 out on the idle, but it depends a lot on the fuel you use. I found the mid needle too be a little sensitive and be sure to get the high end needle close before you mess with the mid needle because the high end needle has some effect on the hover setting especially with the throttle barrel open 50% at hover. The high end and midrange needle overlap each other when adjusting, but the mid needle has no effect on the high end when your wide open throttle.

Keep a close watch on the fuel tube. The type you have will not last long in a hot condition. I would switch to the prather and double jacket it on the muffler (everywhere for that matter). Heat will kill everything with time. The mounting strap and the high temp rubber will wear out but the replacements are semi cheep. Aerotrend makes the coupler tubing and make sure you get the solid blue not the transparent stuff. My needle setting were the same as Douglas. Curtis told me when using a MP once you get an OS 61 broken in put the mid needle to about 1/4 to 1/3 and treat it as a 2 needle carb.

OMG! Gave my MP1 a run today and I'm not used to tuned pipe changes in speed. The low end power is for sure there and the sound is not much louder than my Hatori. I think I may have to go back to my Hatori unitl I can handle the power of the MP. My headspeed seemed way high and got hard to control. Also, the needle settings didn't seem to work for me. The engine wouldn't even start. I went back to my old settings and it fired right up. Any suggestions on my postings? Thanks

The MP acts very much like a tuned pipe because it is. It tunes the engine to run at a set RPM. On my Fury with the 9.3:1 ratio the head spun at about 1820. You will not be able to change this as it is how the MP works. I tried many times to get a dual head speed setting but the engine never worked very well. The MP just wants to control the engine rpm's and this is how Curtis got the great performance on his Vigors. Yes it is a little intimidating but you can get used to it. Once the engines needles are set correctly you will see great power and a constant (although high) head speed. The added head speed can make the cyclic much crisper or more sensative. If you need to, reduce the ATV's or put in dual rates to slow the cyclic to your liking. You may also need to add expo to tame the cyclic with the higher head speed.

Thanks Jensen, yeah scared the c*&p out of me when the MP1 did its thing. Head speed started crankin' and the bird got super sensitive. I may just bear with it and keep practicing with it on. It just hit me by surprise and wasn't ready for it.

mp1

please keep a close eye out for vibrations, i had about the same setup on an excell and the pipe vibrated and caused the heli to jump all over the place, replaced it with a hatori and problem went away dont get me wrong, not saying the mp1 is junk or anything but it can vibrate very easily!

I have the MP on my Fury w/ 9.3 to 1 ratio and WOW!!

I was running the Mavrick 60/70 muffler and it needed to be too lean to run with any power.

I run the Mavrick 680mm Pro blades from Heliproz and I use 25% CP, not heli fuel specific, but try it, you'll like it, I promise!!!

I run around 1850 rpm on head and I fly like a crazy man, constant flips, tumbles, chaos's, inverted backward flight, you name it. Just have to be a little smooth on the collective is all! The engine NEVER even gets HOT!!!!!!!
I tried CP 30% heli and WC 30%, never ran for crap w/ either. Too hot with the WC and no where near smooth with the CP, too much oil.

Try the 25% and see what I mean, very consistent, and just as powerful as the 30%! Keep an eye on the glow plug though, doesn't last very long, just the nature of the beast.

The thing is so smooth that I can run right down to the last of the header tank w/ no foaming or vibration at all!!

My needle settings are LOW- 1 turn open.......MID about 1/2 open..........HIGH about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 open depending on outside temp.

Also make sure to use the Blue Aerotrend tubing for the coupler, it's the only one that stands up to the heat and abuse and soft mount the pipe.

My 2 cents,
Scott
