trying to setup my new throttle jokey pro.

let me first explain what I did and then what happens.
raptor 50 v2 with OS 50SX-H and futaba 9chp with R149DP receiver
I installed the TJP as suggested, when the magnet (only installed one magnet) passes the sensor the red led comes on, that should mean it's working.
I have not changed anything on my throttle and/or pitch curves.
my throttle ATV is 140/103, this gives my complete travel from closed to open carburetor (always had it like this).
I set the ATV of channel 7:AUX also to 140/103
now I turn on the TX and then the RX, within 3 sec. I toggle switch C twice and get the blinking green light.
I now go from full idle (or off) to full throttle and back to full idle and toggle switch C again- the green light now goes of and comes on when above 25% throttle.

I got the following settings at modelavionics site.
at a gear ratio of 8.5:1 and an EPA/ATV: of 58, I get a head speed of 1768rpm
and EPA/ATV: of 62 I get 1855rpm.

following the governor setup instructions for the 9chp on modelavionics site ("The EPA values for rotor speed must be converted to Governor rates by dividing by 2 and adding 50. A rate of 50 disables the Throttle Jockey")

I now enter the Governor setup on my 9CHP and enter the following:
(ACT)
Rate -up 50.0%
CNTR 74.0%
DOWN 81.0%

SW C

on page two:

Mix ACT
Cut CH-ch7
DIR +Limit

Now my first problem, the TJP green light comes on at a throttle stick position above 25%, no matter where I toggle switch C to.
the only time the green light doesn't come on (throttle jokey disabled) is at a setting (lets just say rate up), between 62.5% and 65.0%.
any other percentage and the green light comes on (even 50%)

is there something wrong with the TJP, the 9CHP or do I misunderstand something?

after this set up, I toggle the switch to center, and it should give my a head speed of about 1750RPM, but what happens is this:
the red light on the TJP is on, or flashing very fast, I increase the throttle slowly and my rotor starts turning nicely, when I get 1/4 throttle, the green light comes on, so far so good, I now increase to mid-3/4 stick and should arrive just before hovering (I hover at 3/4 stick) and now my raptor does a very violent increase in head speed, it sounds like going from 1700 to 2500 in a matter of a second, the raptor does an almost full pirouette and all I can do is degrease the throttle as fast as I can.
I don't have a tach and I couldn't leave the head speed up there anyways, because I'm afraid that the raptor will explode.
before the TJP it was set up to have a head speed of 1850rpm and I'm used to the sound it makes at that rpm and this is definitely way above that.

any help is greatly appreciated

Thank you

do your mechanical first and dont rely on your radio to make it right.

full throtal / closed throtal 100/100 atvs and go from there.

You totally did not read the instructions!!
try again
You completely missed proper calibration.

Channel 7 should be 100/100

Another potential problem. Is switch C a 3 position switch on your tx? It is on mine, ie the atv on channel 7 only goes from 100 (or -100) to zero with switch at center. The initial calibration yeilded a higher number for lower headspeed in the gov menu because I calibrated 0 to -100!

ok, just changed my throttle linkage setup, I now got 100/100 on the throttle.
on channel 7 I got 100/103.
I don't know how that three got there, but when I scroll to channel 7 I can go up and down on the left side (the 100) but I can't switch over to the 103 to get it to 100.
I have tried all the switches in all positions, but shouldn't it still be switch C?

after I get this sorted to ATV 100/100 on channel 7, what should I do next?
I really would like to have the TJP on switch C with TJP disabled, 1700-1750rpm in center position and 1850rpm in the down position.

Thank you.

CSheets,

I too am getting ready to setup my TJPro. In the instructions it says to get your throttle ATVs as close as possible to 100%, it does not say to set them at 100 and then set your throttle linkage accordingly.

Is this a misprint or is this really something that will help set it up with less hassle.

I am running a JR10X I would like to set it up to have two different rotor RPMs in idle up 1 & 2 but in normal I want it off. Can I do this without using Aux 2? Can I use the gear switch and get the same results?

The instructions tell you to use aux 2 channel. I have my gyro on Aux 2. Do you think this will be a problem?

Thanks,

Jeff

ok, had to inhibit governor function to change ATV of channel 7.
now I have throttle and channel 7 both 100/100.

I also have my normal, idle 1 and idle 2 set up.

what next?

Governor - INH.
Ch7 ATV - 100%/100%.
Ch3 ATV - as close to 100% and equal as possible.
Throttle Curve NORM - 0% low, 100% high.
Throttle Curve IDLE UP - no point below 25%.

NORM flight mode, THROTTLE HOLD off.
Set Throttle stick down, trim all the way down.
Turn on rx power, flip Ch7 switch 2 times.
Green LED flickers.
Throttle stick all the way up and then back down, LED flickers orange on top, back to green on bottom.
If using a Super/Digital servo raise stick back up, LED flickers orange, flip CH7 switch, orange LED goes out.
If not, keep stick at low and flip CH7 switch. Green LED goes out.

(Note: in the following the LED is orange if Super servo mode was selected)
Throttle trim to middle.
Move CH7 switch to center.
Move throttle stick up and down - green LED stays off.
Move CH7 switch to either up or down.
Move throttle stick up and down - green LED will come on at 20% throttle.
Switch to IDLE UP - green LED comes on.
Move throttle stick up and down - green LED stays on.
Switch to THROTTLE HOLD - green LED goes out and stays out.

Go to GOV menu.
Switch to ACT.
Set in % calculated for your rpm. 50% is off - put it where you want the switch to turn off governor.

Set Throttle Curves to bring the non governor rpm close to desired TJ rpm or else the TJ will never engage. It needs at least 70% of the set rpm to be able to engage.

Yes the 10X will need the ATV set at 100/100. before calibration, otherwise it won't do so properly.

Thanks again.

Problem solved.
thanks all.
the reason why the Helli did this violent turn at a certain rpm and sounded like increasing the head speed wasn't the TJP after all.
I upgraded the tail to cnc tail and reversed the arm of the blade grips like here - stupid me
didn't even think of that at first.
after correcting that and getting my ATVs to 100/100 the setup was a poc and I was out flying today with a great running Raptor.
I was so excited (and Vincent made me do it), that I did my first flips, inverted, rolls and loops

ohh, forgot one thing, anyone who has never considered to buy one of these TJ or governors, pull your CC and get one, it will be the best money spend on a helli.
