Hello guys,
I have a JR 8417 on my tail rotor with a JR 550 Gyro. I noticed that whil flying the servo made a very strange noise. It almost sounded like it was growling. Not really a stripped gear sound. The servo still feels smooth until you reach the limits them it feels very crunchy. Has any one had this problem with this servo? Its only 6 months old. When it locks out it puts a terrible load on the battery. So bad you can watch the voltage drop away to nothing from a fresh charge in about 5 seconds. If you try to give it a tail rotor command it sticks until it decides to break free then acts normal for a while. This just pops up when it wants to so I am grounded until I figure this out. I really dont want it to lock while doing any piro's this would be very hard to get down safely. Does it sound like it has burned up, or is this something I can fix with out sending to Horizon Hobbies? Thanks for your help. Chris

I would send it to horizon and buy a back up servo always good to have a spare. Since it is only 6 months old and all new JR equipment has a 3 year warranty I would send it back to them they have a fairly quick response time.

Call Horizon and let them know then send it to them for repair.

Have a look at the second page of

http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t76008p2/

There's a statement from the uk importer (mac_man) about how the 8417 wasn't to be used as a tail servo and how it could fail.
I don't know what horizon would say but its worth asking them....

The 8417 are fine for use with Helicopters. Neither Horizon, MacGregors or JR has posted anything on their websites to the contrary. The only negative I have seen is posted in Runryder and not on the relavent distributor or company websites.
