I have just put my R90 std together. Mostly a very nice heli, but one thing really have me wondering.

The rudder linkage consists of one straight pushrod along the tail, and a bent one that is hugging the frame around the mechanics. The two are joined by a lump of metal. This is the most crummy design I have ever seen. It moves extremely poorly with lots of binding all the way.

Is anybody actually flying with this, or have you all hung the rudder servo on the tail boom? Which kit are you then using?

I see Thunder Tiger has a PV0321 kit for hanging the rudder servo, and Quick UK has a nice kit including carbon push rod.

Any recommendations?

Hey.
I agree with pistol.
I have a 50 and a 90 and have the stockpushrods and servos mounted in the chassie.
Maybe you got binding because you don't have all the tail rods guides in the same position? Check from the rear of the heli that the pushrod is absolute straight through the guides.
Fill the lump of metal between the rods with locktite and then tight the screws.
I've never had any problem at all with this.

Cheers Andreas

I have actually read of more failures due to the tail control carbon rod ends failing when used in conjunction with boom mounted servos than the plain stock control system.

Trust us , them thousands of Rappys flyin' about are testament to a good design.

I use the Quick UK tailrod kit with the support mounted onto the horizontal fin mount, and it works great for me. I have over 250 flights with my Raptor 60 with no problems. I didnt like the looks of the stock pushrod with the flimsy pushrod, and the metal clunk connector. The boom mounted servo does throw off the balance a tad, but I was able to move the battery pack slightly more forward, and it balanced out fine.

The stock setup apparently does work as others have said, but I just didnt like it, so its really up to you, but the boom mounted setup with the Quick Uk does work well.

Ahope,

I have 2 R60's running the stock setup, make sure that the wire going through the frame is passing through all of the supports and you have it angled back to the connector, you should be able to move it with no binding or friction.

I'm moving my servo to the tail with the carbon mount that bolts to the boom bolts because I'm putting it into an Airwolf but will still use the stock coupler and the straight end of the stock rod with the z cut off.

Just make sure you use blue loctite on the grub screws in the coupler.
