HI,

I have purchased a 2nd hand Z230 with only 3 hours on it. It had been flying at 1:25 oil for breakin.

I would like to convert to Billme's low oil content because I think the engione is overheating. ( I have flown the bird 3 times on 1:40 ( to try to go down in oil step by step sortof !!) and I am noticing that when I land after perhaps 5 mins from hover/ gentle forward flight, and close the throttle the engine idles at a high idle that the clutch is still engaged ever so slightly. ( on startup, the engine has a lovely slow idle ).

I am attributing this to overheating...correct me if I'm wrong.

Therefore, what is the correct Temp for a G230puh in a 710mm equipped Z230 or otherwise similar setup???

Unanimous

Yep. Did that on a g-23, an rc-230, and a hanson modified g-23. It has to do with cylinder tempature causing a better, more complete burn of the fuel during each cycle after it heats up. Overheat would show up as a power loss in hover, and loss of headspeed if it was extreme.

many thanks for your reply. The heli has got what seems to me "good power"

However I would like to purchase an InfraRed thermometer to measure the temperature so that I know I am whitin limits.

Does anyone know at what temperature should the G230PUH run when installed in the relatively heavy JR Z230 ???

Another tstrange thing is : Throttle curve on my Futaba is 15-35-35-55-100. I am using a slightly faster servo than a standard one. When I open full collective and throttle, the heli shoots up fast. The engine barks nicely, RPM sags just slightly to show me that the engine and blades are doing their work. However.... after I finish climbinbg and enter a hover up there, the engine seems to be going to switch off and miss and so does my heartbeat...
However after less than one second, it pics up again.

has anyone experienced this and is there a cure ??
I know it's not a fuel problem... of course the engine has a pumped carb. Is it a mixture setting ?
