All,

Having done a search, I see that there a few Heli Fliers in the Va Beach Area. Due to an unplanned event I will be in the area for a couple of months and was looking for a place to burn some fuel, assuming the weather is cooperative.

Anyone planning a New Years Day FF? Any other information would be appreciated. Currently, my email is not working so send me a PM or reply here and I will get back with you.

Thanks
Erik

I Fly out at Fentress air field sometimes. But there are a few other places to fly at just not as wide open as fentress. The weather has been holding me back a bit lately though. What type of flying do you do? Some of the local clubs don't like the wild and crazy 3D types. But theres no complaints at Fentress for either type of flyer. Just gotta watch out for the plane guys. No NYD FF planned but I'm sure there will be plenty of people taking advantage of any signs of good weather.

Well ill put my opinion in this time!

Fentress, well theres ALOT of people there and out there mixing helis and planes sometimes becomes a problem! you have to certified by people there and its a HUGE runway!
.

TRC, dont go there, bunch of OLD OLD people who hate helis. or at least they did when i was there!

Newport news Park, been there a couple times, like the field, bit of a drive but youll get over it,

Greenbier Park CLosed to RC flying thanks to someone!

As me for me i fly where i have 4 feet of take off space! I live on the bay so i fly up and down the dune line and can stretch out.

theres a few other spots but there limited!

Newport News field is a nice place to fly. 400 ft. asphalt runway. 30 acres of overfly. Benches and table in the pit area. Need to have AMA. Mostly a fixed wing site. But most are nice folk and like helis. A small group of heli fliers there. Here is directions to the field.

I currently fly at the New port news park club. Next to fentress its the only other place that i've been to where i can really strech out. Since i fly mainly f3c patterns i like to use up a lot of space on my fly in to a maneuver. Fentress does have a lot of space of the main taxi way but its usually pretty busy with the plane guys when they come out. Only real place in the area to fly turbines. Also flying at fentress is restricted to saturday, sunday, and i think thurday mornings. The only thing with New port news park is that its a bit of a haul from va.beach. however i live in chesapeake and drive 43miles to the club field there so obviously i don't mind. I like to drive anyway.

Thanks for the information, anyone heading out this week with all the good weather? I am ready to try and burn some fuel, looks like fentress on the weekends and Newport News during the week. I will try and stop by NN today and hopefully catch some of you.

If anyone has plans on heading out, drop me an email eanderso@aol.com

There is a fairly nice field off of South Plaza Trail, in between S. Independance and Princess Anne. There is a nice little paved spot to take off and land from.
