is the faa going to crack down on cameras, binoculars or telescopes next? maybe the batteries are to blame?..... or is it perhaps, the blame of the person and not the object? lol talking to the faa or goverment officials is like talking to a walls, big stupid walls.

Hahahahaha - you guys are so funny.
ROFLAO
Thanks. I do my best.
The problem is not the name. "Drone", "UAV", "Toy".

The problem is the technology that allows a moron to do extremely stupid things with the toys they can buy out of a catalog or store.
The problem is the stupid person that uses the technology. UAV's don't do dangerous, illegal things. PEOPLE do dangerous, illegal things with the UAV's.
You should be debating the technology and the inevitable regulations that will be forthcoming - not the name.
Not debating. Neither of us is going to change our minds it seems.

A name can bring up either good, neutral, or bad thoughts. When I hear the word Coke, I think of a cold delicious drink. When some people hear the word, they think of white powder. So, to make everyone think of a cold drink, using CocaCola might be preferred. Along the same lines, 'Drone' brings up bad thoughts with most people. Spying and killing for instance. Quad or UAV sounds more benign so I think it should be the preferred word for all of us who enjoy our hobby.

Just my opinion, of course, but I think it's a valid one.

In only 5 minutes, I found half a dozen sites that don't call quads drones. I'll email them to you if you like. Throwing out web sites proves nothing and people are probably really tired of us taking up bandwidth with all of this. If that's all you've got, I'm out of here. If you have something that proves the 'D' word is good for the hobby, I'm all ears.

Wow lots of wound up guys here. I know what a drone and a Quad and a helicopter are, I do know what the blades on each look like. Apparently were sensitive to the use of the word drones.

OK You have converted me. Where it didn't matter to me, the more correct term (maybe politically correct) would be Quads yes?? (or Multi's)

I will not post with the word drone when I mean multi or quad copter. (its not really a copter to me, but that's just me)

I also agree its NOT the technology, but the nutz flying them with no concern for the existing rules that most in our hobby abide by.

There are also nutz who fly planes and helicopters, but when a so called nut has control on a flying "thing" that is out of his line of sight, now were asking for trouble. You become anonymous, and that can lead to over stepping what would be considered prudent and safe. It is that 10% (more or less) that can hurt the many of us who try to fly as safe as possible.

Not an easy answer. To those who would fly a multi safely, line of sight, or through the camera remotely, you guys are not the issue here.

How can you identify those who are careless?

When we fly there are a host of things that can bring down an aircraft. When your not flying line of sight, the risk of failures are still there. (some might argue a larger number of potential failures)

If your flying at a large site, clear from people and houses and such, maybe not a big deal if you do crash. This is WHY we choose to fly at a sanctioned field)

No matter what you fly, if you care, just fly it safely.
If you don't care, were screwed.

One last point. Maybe you'all can help me with this question.

There are things that fail that will crash a helicopter, or plane. Sometimes its not a complete loss of control and we can steer our craft to crash where the least amount of damage would occur to people, and things, including the plane, heli.

We are getting far away from the KISS method. Each electronic part adds its own potential for failure. The more pieces, the more potential failure points.

Do you think there exists a higher risk or a lesser risk of a loss of control that we cannot steer to the crash site?
I ask because I don't know and there are a lot of variables.

Do you feel your multi will give you as great an ability to "steer your crash" ?

Would a Multi give you better chances of protecting people and property?
