Just built my 550 dfc , I've always supported align since Day one but think they need to stop trying to make as much money out same parts and make original helicopters .
My 550 even says 600 on the tail .
The tail push rod is too short to safely fly so I fitted a quick uk longer link on one end :-(.
If you set the tail servo at 90 on full travel it jams into tail box .
I removed servo grommets which helped but it still hits .
The gyro tray which slots between frames makes the build to me low quality .
All the parts on Heli are old news and used on 600 and 700 .
My Butty just bought a 500 goblin and I know it costs abit more but it's nite and day better .
Think Align need to come out with there own new Ideas , like why are they copying the goblin tail look ?
Bring some thing new to the table or me for one will be jumping ship

Align is a money making marketing tool, and that they do very well!
And in the process they have given rc helis to the mass market on a sensible budget.
550 and 600 are essentially the same product in a different chassis, the costs of lazer etching two identical parts just for name sake, would have to be moved on to the consumer, whats the point in that?
They haven't copied anything SAB have done, in fact they went to the trouble of money/time and effort to test the response of there speed fuselage before committing to production!, and the outcome was positive in terms of consumer needs, so they produced it!
You could argue SAB copied the 'covered' tail from JR, but they didnt, it's simply evolution of design.
Ive had near on every heli produced since 2000 and recently added goblin 500 and 700.
Align still ticks the boxes for the majority, i still run 5 off them and think they are still the best value regardless of any issues, which i might add that i have yet to own a heli that didn't have issues, barr maybe mikado.
Jump ship, but who offers better value ?

BTW youre right about the tail control rod, they seem to short over the whole range really,

Thanks Col for reply , the value for money is good agreed , but making the tail rod too short could be dangerous for a beginner who just follows the book .
Not very impressed with them putting the parts together ethier as a newbie may be tempted to just fit the part , built head for instance .
Side by side with the latest goblins though there's a huge difference .
Ok enough wingeing lol :-)

Having owned a 550e v1 through the 550 DFC versions there is one thing that align does and that is make you feel like you are getting value when you buy. Problem with owning it is a short period of time they de-value the older versions with newer versions that have specific upgrades at the same price point (some needed, others not so much).

Totaled a 550e v1 airframe and bought a new DFC. Ended up swapping out the DFC head for the v2 non-dfc style, made tail gears for older non 0.8mod gears for lower main head speed and ran the old style 550e boom stuff for balance. After I got done I thought, well its a good thing I had all those parts on hand, because that would have been an expensive just to get what wanted/needed. Ended up telling myself it shouldn't have to be this way out of the box and looking elsewhere.

In the end I would rather have a setup that doesn't get updated every year and can hold true to what I believe is a simple approach (not trying to engage in market tactics to sell/move product but sell a product that can provide what I want/need). It has become a hobby where everyone wants the next thing. How many times have you heard....."When is company XXX going to provide something new." (Really is I'm bored of what I have).

Sorry, but goblin is smaller and cost a lot more. You usually get what you pay for, but Align combos you get a lot for what you pay.

Thanks
You are right you get what you pay for but align kits are still not cheap and a lot of money for the average working person .
I don't think we should keep excepting this then paying more when they bring out the updated part to fix what should never have been wrong from the start .

Years ago I used to run Thunder tiger Ek4 monster trucks , they had loads of problems , thunder tiger made all the upgrade parts then gave them to every single Ek4 owner all over the world for free even paid shipping .
In kit was new diffs , cyl head clutch carb parts all free , never once have I seen Align stand by there product like this and I've owned most of there models from day one and stupidly updated them as they bring fixes out .

Youre dead right they are not cheap any more. and i think ongoing improvements reflect the stance they take in the market place.

Im certain of the fact that not many of the kits are carrying flaws to date.

I parted my 550 quite quickly, as it was a battery eater, i remember the one piece carbon push-rod being too short, but i have found that the case with most of there model line up.

I run a few aligns now and really struggle to fault them.

It's bad the tail rod is still to short in my latest DFC model , surely they should have fixed that if problem been there since early models .
I've a 700 nitro dfc too and love that Heli , that's y a little dissapointed to find silly things like this which I thought Align had moved on from .

If your 550 has a 600 boom on then that kind of explains why the tail push rod is too short!

60% of the time, it works every time!

The new 550 comes with a 600 boom use one long ball link on the end it will make up the diff, Align did not compensate for the 600 boom in kit imho

Yes I put a quick uk long link on one end worked perfect
If the parts are cheap enough to upgrade I will turn my new 550 dfc into the latest version .
Will see when they come out , hopefully it won't be that many parts needed
Frames for sure
