No reprogramming FBL but you do need to rebind...provided you have a Tx that supports it. Otherwise keep the DSM2.

DSM2 could "potentially" be prone to its signal being saturated in a busy environment such as a big fun fly. This is due to it randomly picking two frequencies that are "sometimes" too close together, which defeats the purpose of spread spektrum.

DSMX cured that.

DSMX is ostensibly better than dsm2. But if you don't have a DSMX tx you can't use them. You can send your dsm2 radio in to horizon for a firmware flash. But I haven't done it...I'd be without a radio. So I still fly dsm2 SATs.

Also note that beastx is different than ar7200bx. The ar7200 MUST use DSMX SATs or you WILL crash. RTFM. It has the ability to run the DSMX SATs in DSM2 mode. But this is only for the AR7200BX and not the beastx.

if it ain't broke, break it.

DSMx introduced a new algorithm into the way the Transmitter and Receiver talk to each other, and how they behave while turned on and operating. The change was made to allow you to fly with a more secure RF link when operating in an environment where the 2.4 GHz portion of the radio spectrum might be saturated.

The RF saturation problem occurred a few years back at LARGE gatherings of flyers -- such as the IRCHA Jamboree where you may have 1000 potential pilots coupled with cell phones, WiFi equipped laptops, campers, and other wireless electronic gadgets that people bring along with them.

If you're not flying in a huge crowd of other people and within a really "full" 2.4 GHz radio spectrum, DSMx doesn't really buy you a whole lot more than you already have.

Of course, as mentioned earlier, if you don't have a Transmitter that supports DSMx protocol, a DSMx receiver really does you no good, and it will bind and operate in DSM2 mode.

Just remember NEVER to MIX DSMx and DSM2 receiver bits and pieces. If you have a DSMx receiver, use a DSMx satellite; if you have a DSM2 receiver, use a DSM2 satellite.
