So, I have had 2 HC3SX gyros sitting around for a while.
One was the most expensive FBL unit ever, as I had to ship it off to Germany to get the Upgrade, and I had paid full retail for it....and that just turned me off totally to where I didn't even want to look at it (silly, I know).

Anyhow, I am building a 700 size trainer to run low headspeed and full on 12S power and wanted to make it ready for anything I can throw at it.
I wanted it to be simple, light, affordable, and easy to maintain.
And I need Captain Rescue!!!

The airframe:
A lightweight KDS Innova 700.
I have fixed all of the minor problems with this heli using: a high grade tail belt, a Speedix aluminum rear pulley, Lynx aluminum tail case, custom upgraded one way case with huge bearings, a quick UK tail boom brace mount, and heavy duty boom supports from the Agile 7.2
I am using the 4525 Ultimate motor and 160A Scorpion ESC.
I am using Xpert HV servos all around.
ready to fly with 12 5000 65 C Pulse packs, I am at 10lbs 6 oz....

I upgraded the firmware and went through setup this morning.
I had to move the balls from 21mm to 18mm on the cyclic servos.

When I got to the final screen of the setup, I was asked to check the sensors to make sure that the swashplate was tilting the correct direction.
Well, the elevator works properly but I get NOTHING on the Aileron movements. There seems to be no gyro acting on the aileron circuit.

What to do???

Some one please help!!

I learned to fly planks many years ago, single channel, rudder only. With no ailerons, just trim it for a climb under power and use rudder to turn....

I sure hope it's going to turn out to be something simple, as I'll bet you're not too eager to send it back to Germany again.

Given you have a second one...swap and verify its not the cables nor settings.

I put the second one on late last night and confirmed that it is indeed the gyro
It is interesting, though, that even with a functioning Aileron gyro, the swash movements during correction seem awfully small compared to almost every other fbl unit I have ever owned (and I have owned most of the major brands and many of the not so big names).
If anyone can confirm that this is normal, it would be greatly appreciated.
And an email to caption remain unanswered as to how to handle the problems with the other.
I will be able to post a short video of the problem unit and the working unit to show how they look.

Hi Chris,

I hope to figure out your issue.
What radio (TX-RX) are you using?
Also it would be great if you can take some screencaps of your setup while running the software.
ESPECIALLY the RIGID page.

Let me know and we'll go from here.

Radio is a Futaba 14SG using 3 channel SBUS rx...
I was SLAMMED at work today and need to get a few more hours of administrative work done tonight....
I will try to get some more information for you tomorrow, including a short video clip of the bad gyro behavior, a short video of the "good" gyro behavior, and a screencap of the software at the RIGID page.

looking to get this solved and do some flying with this thing.

Thanks for the input and offer to help.

Chris,
Could you clarify for me? Are both units doing the same thing (acting like the aileron gyro is off or dead) or only the 1st unit you tried?

Send it back to Danny at DemonAero. He will fix it for you if it actually needs it.

I agree.

Was waiting to see the video and check the RIGID settings to show Danny.

Update:

Well being slammed at work I did not have time to get the videos I was hoping for.
HOWEVER, I wanted to go back through the setup.

Remember, the units have never been flown and so had whatever firmware was on there, and the software had updated them.

Just out of curiosity, I downloaded the firmware from the Bavarian Demon website and manually updated the unit.
Successful write and went through the setup as before.
And what do you know...SUCCESS!

The aileron channel responds correctly and seems to be ok.
I still think that the corrections are kind of small, but my plans will be to take the helicopter out tomorrow and give it a test fly, and give a report back.

I will also plan to be at Joe Nall if any Demon experts are planning on going and can take a look at it there, but thats a ways off.

Can anyone who has flown other units tell me what feel this unit has compared to others?

Thanks for all your support, looking forward to a great first flight and many more successes.

Hi Chris, I am glad that it was that easy of a fix.

I started FBL one year with BeastX, then a year with VBar, and last 2 with HC / Demon. Also setup and flown plenty CGY750.

IMO and almost everyone that own's one, the tail on the HC holds better and piro's more consistent. The cyclic is as adjustable and tuneable as the Vbar.
Smaller helis like the default cyclic (RIGID) setting better than larger, heavier machines.

When setting the Horizon+collective mode (aka Rescue) pay close attention when setting zero pitch during zero.

Follow the instructions on how to set program mixes to select separate horizon and rescue and your'll have no problems.

Let me know if you need help with the last, I also fly Futaba.
