I had posted this under another topic but it got so buried that I thought it best to post a stand alone topic.

Currently on my computer I have version 4.0q. When I start Phoenix (and yes I am sure I am connected to the internet), it does not show any updates available for it. I understand that I should have to update to version r, which it doesn't show up either.

When I tell it to look for updates, the only thing it shows me are a few manuals (in other languages) and a view field and aircraft schemes that others have done. It does not show any of the program updates.

While I understand 5.0 is a bit buggy, I should at least see the ability to upgrade. Any possible reasons or suggestions to try?

Somewhere in the program setup or perhaps download menus should be an option to look for updates when you start Phoenix. Do you have THAT enabled?

-----

Also, from the Phoenix support site:
This problem may be due to the permissions set on your computer.

If you try to install a new program update, model, or flying site using the automatic updates system, and the auto-updater pauses for a long time, or the program version has not changed or the new content has not appeared after Phoenix restarts, please follow the instructions below:

• Use the auto-update system in the normal way to select and download new updates

• Once the program has finished downloading new updates, you will be prompted to shut Phoenix down and install these

• If this process fails, or the new update is not visible after Phoenix has restarted, close Phoenix

• Open your Start Menu > Programs > PhoenixRC folder

• Right-Click the "Install Updates Manually" shortuct and choose "Run as Administrator"

• Click "Yes" to any questions asked, and "Allow" or "Continue" if prompted by Windows Security

• The updates should be installed and Phoenix should restart

You should only need to follow the above instructions once.
If all else fails, send the Phoenix guys an email, explain the problem, they should be able to help get you going.

The new Phoenix 5 is a stand alone version of the sim ( I think ) and unless you buy the program you won't get it as a free update

Found this on their site:-

Please Note: This update has been temporarily removed while we address some stability issues with our download servers and will be online again very soon.

This seems to be referring to version 5.0a.

I really hope that version 5 is not a standalone and you need to purchase yet another DVD.

V5.0 is a free upgrade to anyone who already has Phoenix.

The initial V5 download is HUGE.

Wonder why it's taking so long to make 5.0a available again? Subsequent v5 updates seem to be ready to download.

They are already at 5.0e.

If you are having trouble with V4.0 and the automatic update not working (make sure you have it enabled), you should be able to download the updates manually and install them. Instructions are on the Phoenix site.

I've tried, I can download additional models, scenery etc. but no program update. Tried a few times. Also there's no standalone dl of 5.0a from the website.

With regard to my problem, yes I have check for updates enabled. It has worked fine in the past but as I said, apparently there is version 4.0r that has been out, but my Phoenix has never found it nor does it see version 5.

Once the program loads, I manually check for updates but as I said in the OP, it does not see any new updates for the versions

Ok following the above, I was able to upgrade to the 4.0r and now I see the upgrade to version 5. So far so good.

When I try to upgrade to version 5, it is upable to communicate with the server or something like that and times out. One thing it does say is it is trying to upgrade to 5.0 a. Does this have to be installed before going to 5.0e (or whatever the latest is) or is it timing out because it is pointing to something that no longer exists and if true, how to correct this/
