Hi,

I picked up a used ENV 700 a couple months ago and due to weather I've only flown it twice. First time was about a month or so ago. I noticed on a prolonged climbout I would here what seemed like motor surging - loss in RPM with a quick recovery. About once a second. Once you let off of the collective everything is fine. Only does it on a prolonged climbout - more than 3 seconds or so. I did some looking online and saw the info on the slipping oneway sleeve. I ordered the correct loctite and reassembled it. Next chance to fly it was today. It still does the same thing so I'm not sure what is going on at this point. Other than that the heli flies great - I am extremely happy with it.

My setup is as follows:
Scorpion 4035-560
Kontronik Jive 80HV w/heatsink (modes 1,4,9 & 10)
12s 5100mah Voltz 35c batteries

Nothing is getting hot but was wondering if perhaps the esc is limiting the current? Maybe its the KSA mode - Ive read that some need it with Scorpion motors.

Weather is going to be crappy again this week so I was hoping for some direction as to what to check out.

Thanks,
Angelo

Probably the Voltz batteries. Get a good set of pack (or borrow some) and see. Batteries probably have already reached their end

Hello,

What speed and what amount of pitch are you applying?

If you are going 2000rpm and 13 degrees on pitch on 710 blades, you are pulling some 5kW and close to what the ESC can handle. Just my impression not the absolute truth.

Next time look at the jive LED after a flight. You can check and tell what failure mode the jive experienced from reading the LED.

I have not used KSA mode with scorpion 4035-560 engines. Not needed, depends on what generation it is.

Hope it works out. Get back. I have flown with Scorpion 560 and jive for a loooong time.

Best Regards
Petter

Hi Petter,

I was running 690 blades at about 1960rpm with about 11 degrees pitch.

It turns out it was my auto hub still slipping - I pulled it apart again, put a couple of flat spots in the sleeve and tapped the outside of the hub for a couple of set screws along with loctite 648. No more slipping.

Thanks,
Angelo

Good that you found the cause.

I have never had one slipping myself. However I have helped with a few that did. At a competition I traded my NIB with a slipping one to get him going. I tried to fix that one with 2700 loctite same as I used in the torque tube ends. Haven't tested that one yet.

For the jive 80. check the LED, I suspect that you will see it flashing rapidly. That is very common. Talked to a few pilots they said that this is very common and no reason to be alarmed.

Regards
Petter

Been there

Angelo,

Glad you isloated the problem. It sounds very familiar.

Had the same trouble with all my early auto hubs. They were never really designed for the electric power we have become accustomed to these days (>5KW is a lot of power!). Even after re-seating with loctite they still eventually failed. Best solution is what you've done (also the same as the redesigned version Curtis sells now); a mechanical fix. You shouldn't have a problem now!

Happy flying,

Daniel
