That is one sweet looking heli and great equipment going on it!

Now quit talking about it and lets get that bad boy in the air! If you like you can ship it to me and I will put it togeather and put a few flights on it for you!

I got everything ready to start... And the kids were napping, but I needed to do a quick alignment on my golf cart.. Seriously.. It's a 15 min job... Well.. Then the baby monitor starts making noise 8 min in and my 2 month old woke up needing a diaper and a bottle... And then my 2 year old woke up.. So the cart is on the jack still and the S is on the bench... Life man.. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

So obstacle #1 came right away. I have Torq 9180's on my Diabolo 800+ and on my Goblin 700.. So naturally, I want them on the S. Turns out they are a I little thick... If ya know what I mean. I had to shim my elevator servo in to clear the fuse.. We will see what gems that creates when it comes to installing the horn and pitch rod. I had to order more "shims" aka SAB servo spacers, I only had 3 and need 4, so obviously I ordered 2 sets, so 16 are coming in : ).

After a long day of aligning a golf cart... Getting baby pics done.. Keeping kids busy..and then going to a friends house, I only managed to get the 3 cyclics and the motor mounted.. Maybe I'll get some done tomorrow.. But it is my fly day.. We shall see

You need for the Diabolo-S servos that have the same dimensions in the height very similar to the Futaba BLS451. MKS980 and clones (I assume that TORQs are very similar to them) are too high. You will probably get trouble with the roll servo arms. The canopy was designed around the roll servo arms.

Gerd - The roll servos with arms fit, but it's a close fit, they don't hit the body when it's in place. I will do more testing when I start with power-ons. The baby woke up, I was feeding her when I read your message.. I was going to go back to sleep.. Guess what I did instead.. Lol.. Checked to make sure the fuse fit : ). The Torq is a little longer than the futaba and I only needed .12" to clear the elevator servo, so I shimmed it. So far so good. I did order some metal servo arms though.. We will see what difference they make, their profile is a little smaller than the plastic ones that I used for testing.

As for hiring help.. We need it for sure. I don't know how my wife does it when I deploy, we are busy 24/7 when it's the two of us... I couldn't imagine doing it alone. Although, we do get a lawn guy when I leave, and she takes her Durango in for oil changes... : )

Hi Gerd,

I've been looking at servos for this heli and a number of the higher torque Futaba ones come out with a height of 38mm vs 37mm for the 451 and 40mm for the MKS HBL950 and Torq 9180. Will the extra 1mm fit?

Thanks, Geoff.

If you do the math on my previous posts, you will see that the Torq 9180 is .12" too long.. Which is right at 3mm too long. Since his suggested servo is 37mm, and everything is extremely close tolerance, you can assume anything over that is too long. You may have a mm to play with, a I shimmed my elevator in 3mm and it doesn't hit the canopy. I will find a way to use the servos of my choice, even if it means modifying them to fit... I'm stubborn like that. The case on the 9180's are pretty thick so I think machining off a little of the corner that catches is a option as well. The 9180's fit so far as roll servos too.

Geoff, MKS950 do not fit. If 1 mm more on Futabas would be important I cannot believe, but I will give no guarantee about that. The contour of the Diabolo S was designed just around the roll servo arms. Also the total height is only one aspect, the distance from upper side to mounting plane the other.

I didn't like the 451's due to the fact they run on 6v.. And my battery backups are straight 2s.. I would lean towards the HV's. I was looking at them this morning when Gerd told me my servos may not fit the canopy. But do so at your own risk

Jeff, we run the 451 on 2s Lipo as buffer and 8,0 Volts on the Kosmik. Robbe, the german importer of Futaba, allows this, see sheet. Works fine.

there are many threads in RR and HF pointing out guys that have been running BLS451 on 2S Lipos from day 1, for several hundred flights with no issues.

In Europe the BLS451 is rated at 7.4v, as you see in theat chart, and is the same servo sold on the states except the label here that says 6v.

http://www.minicopter.de/img/Futaba-Servos.jpg

I love and respect Futaba's ratings, but I also understand marketing drives EVERYTHING.

I will be using BLS451 on 7.4 (2s LiPo) on #48

Well I'll be damned.. And they are a bargain at around $100 each compared to the Torq's... I will get them if the Torq's become an issue.
