Need some help from someone familiar with XL parts. I have an old 0844 head with the metal blade grips. I also have a Tempest head block and would like to make a flybarless head setup. Do I need to have the Tempest metal blade grips(MA122-11) or can I use the 0844 grips that I have? What is the difference between these two parts if any?

Same grip as far as the grip body is concerned. The Tempest grips have 5mm drag bolt inserts. The 0844 grips use 4mm drag inserts.

Thanks for the reply Dr. Ben! Sorry for my lack of knowledge, but which part is the drag bolt insert and does it make any difference in build or use? One more question guys - I realize it likely comes down to flying preference, but when using the Tempest head for flybarless any thoughts on which hardness of o-rings to use?

Drag inserts are the chrome blade bolt bushings in the grips. You'll want to use stiff dampers, either double 80's or 90's, or the one piece variety.

PS:The 4mm insert grips are safe to use with the correct bolt even with 700 class models because a solid shoulder of the bolt passes through both halves of the grip. You will tear the grip off the 3mm screws that hold it to the aluminum sleeve on the blade axle before you will ever shear a 4mm Gr12.9 shoulder bolt.
