WooHoo!

Made hotel reservations tonight for myself and Dave so count two more in.

Cliff,

FBL has been allowed under provisional status for several years (I think I was the first one to ever enter an event in the US under that provision) and is of course fully legal for F3C, but unless I missed the rules change proposal in my email, AMA code still does not allow it from a points/technical standpoint for official order of finish for the the AMA classes. Thus are you just going to blend the AMA FBL and FB scores into one finish or tally the scores separately?

At some point the verbiage for the rules change needs to be devised and submitted for the AMA classes so it can be voted on and of course passed. Shall we just use the same wording from the F3C code?

Just curious.

Updated initial post.

Ben,
See updates to initial post.

This is a AMA rules change cycle year, I encourage someone to submit a proposal to allow 3-axis gyros in the AMA classes. And maybe some new maneuvers...

Less than five months until the NATS start. Any chance this change could be completed by then?

Follow the process.

There is a rules proposal process outlined on the AMA web site. It explains the normal and 'urgent' rule change process and contains the necessary forms. However, 'urgent' proposals have specific requirements for submission and approval.

Alternatively, I suggest you inquiry Craig Bradley, the heli NATS event director, and see if he is again running provisional AMA classes for FBL at the NATS.

Provisionals are listed for the AMA classes on the 2014 registration tally on the AMA website, so I can only reasonably assume Craig will be doing it again.

I thought I recalled Craig mentioning at the 2013 NATS we weren't going to have to worry about the FB vs. FBL thing in 2014. If someone can PM me his email address I can try contacting him.

I'll be there

Forecast highs near 80 degrees?! Can't remember what that feels like, but sounds good to me.

Man I wish I could be there!

In Nashville (yesterday) there was enough snow to cover my front lawn for a little while; I'm done with winter!

Have to take the youngest child to her collage orientation this weekend (did not think I could bail out without serious repercussions ).

Good luck to you all and have a great time.

Thanks TORCHS!!!

In spite of the perfect contest weather... 20mph crosswinds, and a tornado warning on Saturday, I had a great time!

Happy we all seemed to make it through new the maneuvers this year without much trouble at all. I have much to learn regarding FBL setup... but I may not be alone there. Flying looks like it will be close toward the end of the season, but it may take that long to find the right model setups!

Big thanks to Dad for CD'ing and TORCHS for hosting. Great site for a contest and having the other flightline active for the club members seemed great for all. Hope to come back next year.

Good seeing those who made it. See you in Huntsville come MAY.

Results and comments.

The weather forecast hurt us, limited entries to the diehards...

We had crosswind from one direction on Saturday as the front came through, pretty violently, on Saturday afternoon. Quartering crosswind from the opposite direction and cool on Sunday. Still, we got in 5 rounds.

Results:
1st Place Advanced: Dave Sellars

1st Place Expert: Dennis Purduski

1st Place F3C: Nob Muraki
2nd Place F3C: Cliff Hiatt
3rd Place F3C: Daniel Hiatt
4th Place F3C: Gordie Meade

F3C was close, we all have much work to do...

I would like to extend a huge thanks to the TORCHS club for allowing us to play, and appreciated all their help with preparations.

Thanks to the 'die hards' for coming to the event, I expect to see you again next year. Please spread the word...

Regards,
Cliff

Yes, all two blade and all CGY, but with differing settings as far cyclic gyro settings go.

In adddition to Gordie's info (which was spot on!) Nob was running a Kontronik motor, I was running an Align motor and Daniel was running a Hacker motor.

Cliff

Cliff,
Thanks for having the event. I learned quite bit what I'm doing wrong, but I had great time.

I think we all need more work on this new schedule, but no judges stood off from chairs during flights. This is good sign!

Too bad not many guys attended. I guess weather forecast scared people away.
