Just installed a new RJX pipe on my Raptor 90gasser. Sure looks awesome now- I hope it runs as good as my stock black can did. This will be my first experience with a quiet pipe on my gassers.

its actually going to run ALOT better than the box muffler...

you'll notice it as soon as you start flying it around....big difference in power at higher RPMs..

I tested a modded 20cc engine with the box muffler and then with a V2...

the difference was about 1,500 rpms if I remember on the engine during a bench test with a prop.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

RM3 would you attribute that to the back pressure of the aftermarket muffler or the outlet hole size?

it appears that the larger the expansion chamber is the better the HP output...

since the box muffler that comes with the engine has a very small expansion chamber there is alot of backpressure in it at high rpms....

the exit of the pipe then just serves to control a narrow range of the expansion chamber pressure...

with the modded engine I found that opening up the exhaust on the V2 actually killed a bit of the top end rpm...the ideal was with the reducer in place for my particular engine.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

I have never run the stock box muffler but do run the RJX and have for awhile now. I like the muffler and the performance at least for me is good on my Min Air Spectra with a Hanson 29cc puh. The sound is very nice and not loud at all compared to other gasser mufflers. But I will warn you from my experience that they can fail especially with a new engine that is not broken in. They tend to split open,,at least my first one did. I am on my second RJX muffler and so far so good as my engine is fully broken in! Since you can find this muffler for 50 bucks ,,if you like it is good to have another on hand or know a good welder to fix it.

MY OPINION ONLY!!!!!

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

Your gonna like the sound of that RJX muffler especially compared to the stock Zenoah box muffler. It will make it sound like like a big block!!

Comon down to Medfield, MA!

I got a grass island surrounded by 1 to 2 feet of snow where you can park your vehicle, get out and run some heli operations as if it was summer. I make that happen with a heated radio glove, flying today until dark just about the glove was hot as it wasn't cold enough outside!

Here is a short video I posted on the 2014 flight log thread:

Watch at YouTube

If you can't get it (no 4x4 vehicle), you can part by the road and I'll give you a ride in

Let me add some taylorcraft pictures:

Raja, your an inspiration- I may just have to take you up on that! Our field is inaccessible in the winter and mud in the spring. I do have a few large factory parking lots that are empty around here but my hands are pretty much non functional below 40deg

Who makes/sells those? Also- any special mods to the engine for cold weather flight? I don't run a generator but I imagine my LiFe would be ok if kept in the warm vehicle until just before use.

I made my own heater actually, out of some scrap wood, 4 resistors, a heat sink and a fan. its not too hard to do, just takes some time. generator puts an end to battery worries, no matter how cold it is, can't tell you how the life would work in extreme cold, have not flown battery only since 2005...

Hobby King sells a heater for $15 that I prefer over my home made setup.

I use the Ace Extreme Transmitter Glove, the HK glove is too small for my taste.

LiFe are OK in cold weather, I run a Scorpion backup guard too.

Just installed a new RJX pipe on my Raptor 90gasser.
Just be careful with that muffler. There have been many reports of it coming apart or deforming. In my case it looked like it melted. I have seen photos of others there the muffler has split in half.

Then again for some people it have lasted years.

Just keep an eye on it.

I can vouch for the ride service. If your nice dropoff back at your car is avalable as well

And do build the heater. I borrowed the idea from Raja and made one as well. takes a few evenings work and one trip to ratshack for some parts.
I don't run a generator but I imagine my LiFe would be ok if kept in the warm vehicle until just before use.
Before I installed the generator I was running an A123 brand LiFe in temps down to the 20s F. It works just fine. I have many of those packs in planks that live in the unheated garage all year and has survived many winters no issue.
