It's still a UI issue. I don't see what benefit this little image will provide?
It's inline with RR's minimal member signature displayed with posts. The benefit is it's a place holder for the larger image that would otherwise be overlooked.

Please, NO! You must give us an option to not display them.

> Am I on the right track?

No. This is not an improvement in any way! It detracts from the beautiful simplicity of RR.

Your avitar doesnt have to be a photo of yourself, it could be your helis, your rims on your car etc.If you dont want other members to see you, simply select a photo of something you like and use it.
That's not the point at all. The point is to allow the user to personalize their view of the site. Websites are all about personalization these days.

For example, as a regular user on RCGroups I have the ability to control the items in the list below. This really works great and allows me to choose which items I see in posts. Everyone's choices are different based on their usage of the site. For example, some folks who use the site frequently may prefer to not see the same long annoying signatures over and over and over and over. Others who use the site infrequently may not care. Again it's all about personalization.

Thanks for the tip...that works for me!
Small enough to not be annoying, yet able to be enlarged enough to actually see if you choose to.

I also agree with Ace, however, the option to turn those things off would be a bonus.

It's cool, livens up the forums with some color. Even the tiny pic is pretty good, click the name and see the enlarged one. It ain't no over haul.

I get it now. You click on the member's name, and then you are taken to the real picture. In that case, the tiny picture is just perfect. Nice work, Mark.

I like it. Of course that will mean more work for Mark to remove objectionable pictures some nuts will post.
But on a positive note it makes threads a tiny bit more interesting.

You're on a roll..
I like this a lot, Mark! It just adds more to the RR maturity image.
It also promotes a personal connection... seeing the face of the person you are talking to has always made good sense to me.

A lot of great ideas percolating lately on RR.

Really? They will go south very quickly unless policed like crazy.

Whatever you do Mark, just please give us the option to turn them off. And perhaps off by default on the mobile version. They will eat already valuable screen space.

Yes really. As long as it's used as intended. You anticipate members using pics of Michelle Obama?

I like it too. Good compromise seems to be a setting to show or not show them next to the posts. I would not make their display optional in the profile page, though.
